No Mutations in Wolfling Runs! | |

Greetings all.
I've recently returned to Creatures as a way of filling time until Spore is released. Previously, I never did much with wolfling runs, so I decided to give them a whirl.
After about 20 generations, I have observed no noticeable color mutations. In fact, the only odd thing I noticed was a tendency for one of my gen 19ers to take two steps forward and one step back every time he walks.
How long until I can expect color mutations from normal in-game norn families? Or do I need outside genomes to make this happen?
As an aside, I chose to do the run using only one strain of norn - Bengal. Would I get better results crossing Bruins into the mix?
Thanks! |

Greetings!
Mutations can really happen at any time. Sometimes it depends on the norn breed. For example, if you bred fallout norns (A third party norn breed) then you would see mutations right away, in the second generation, because of their high mutablility. But if you used, say, dream norns (another third party breed) it would take much much longer to notice mutations.
But in terms of in game breeds, it's more the type of mutation that counts for the norn breeds. From what I've read, bruin norns are more suseptible to being born with grendel (or maybe ettin) parts, due to the fact that they are in Norn Slot A, and grendle sprites are in Grendel Slot A (and i think ettins are in Ettin Slot A, i'm not too sure). I don't know much about other breeds though.
But as i said, mutations can happen at any time. I once had a 4th or 5th generation norn that had grendel legs, and a 2ed or 3rd generation bruin that had a rather gray coloration.
Do not upset the ugly worm, lest it be a dragon in disguise. (>oo)>

F27N161 was my first noticed mutation! During the youth and child stages, she was a lovely shade of pink!
I immediately sequestered her and her (subsequent) offspring in the desert area, which I have blocked off for breeding mutation strains. I have high hopes that another 12-18 hours will produce more colorful norns.
Unfortunately, the first generation after her shows no signs of continuing her color mutation. F27N161 herself lost the pink shade once she hit adolescence.
Sad. But hope-inspiring!
UPDATE: Wait! I take it back: F28 generation has shown one instance of breeding pink in at least the youngest stages of development. Can't wait to see what they look like in another day =D

I usually get slight colour mutations after about 6 generations.
Except for the time I went mad with the gen kit and set the starter norn's mut values to 300, and I got the coolest colours ever after 4 generations!
One was a draconian, red and fluro yellow! |

Well, if you want some major color mutations, or just crossbreeds, try looking for some hyper-mutant-suseptible-3rdparty-norns (wow thats a mouthfull).
Nine times have I been told im crazy and ten times I have accepted it. |

Good tips, thanks everyone.
I'm being stubborn and trying for color muts with only the normal starter norns. Up to Gen 55 with only minor variations and only during specific life cycle ages (baby: yellow, Child pink).
None of those colors show up in the same critter and none seem to breed 100% true.
Hope springs eternal.

Try introducing norns from EasyGMS - they will show colour mutations in the second generation.
