I have always wondered.. will creature labs ever be making more norn breeds and add-ons. Personely I prefer their breeds more than 3rd party-breeds. I find 3rd party-breeds to be....somewhat cheaper than the ones gameware makes. I only keep the breeds they make.

They might, but there hasn't been much activity from CL for ages.

I think that they're more likely to make Creatures 4 with
a whole new set of norns then to make more breeds for Creatures 3/DS.

Gameware have said they won't be making any new addons for the old games, but that they are looking for
a publisher to fund a brand new 3D Creatures game instead.

GRR! *sends ultra cheap vicious norns to attack the insulter* hehe....

Anyway, I've never really gotten any Gameware breeds. But I've always kept every breed I've had to be treated the same, i.e., to be allowed to run about wherever they want to. I've never seen much difference between breeds, save a few here and there (draconian norns) and so I don't think the Gamware breeds will be much different. I mean, how do you create a lazy norn anyway? And any good third party breeder can create an angry grendel hunting breed (there have been several already).

Do not upset the ugly worm, lest it be a dragon in disguise. (>oo)>

KC11, I liked your norns :) I don't have them; but they're cool.

I dont know about 3rd party being worse. There were some pretty awesome 3rd party C2 breeds. Scorpio, Mer, Kai, etc. Wish I still had them all on backup. Haven't tried any 3rd party C3 norns though. Not even the ones I was working on once (never finished and was testing in C2 at the time & planned to test the C3 version after C2 was done)

I do hope Gameware do a 3D version - there's been talk of one for years now!

Im trying to remember the name of the cancled project for the 3D creatures game. By now They will have to set it In either PS3 or Wii, seeing as the old idea for a 3D game was for Gamecube.
If Its actualy made.

Creatures Loci? Though that isn't an addon...

This subject has come up repeatedly on Gameware's own forums :\.

The basic message is:
They have no Creatures projects planned, and can't do much of anything until they make enough of a name for themselves in the game-making scene to attract a publisher.

The 3D game was called Project Loci.

(Loci-loci-loci. Thats where Ive heared that before)
Ya, but like Shadowveil said, Gamewhere will have to get back in the game (No pun intended) to get some publishers interested. In the meantime 3rd party Additions must hold their own in supporting the game.

I'd hate to post negative, but I don't think there will be a new creatures game for a fair bit of time, myself.

Not really active around these parts anymore.

Well its already been a fair bit of time. Last game came out, what five+ years ago? Creatures has been around for 10?

I lost faith in their new games. I thought C3/DS was dreadful and the norns completely lost that cute, independent personality effect that they once had in c1/c2. And with a new game, if one were to come out, I doubt they'd revert.

Besides, everyone is into violent killing and strategy games. Not too many people are willing to give attention to a cutesy AL/AI project. I doubt they'll have look getting that publisher

Good point. I'd love to put the real science back into the game. A TRUE AL simulation again like it used to be. Ah well, they still had more brains than the average Sim :P And that can get addictive too. I'm waiting to see what Spore will be like too!

Well, as soon as you get Spore, you tell me. I probably (knowing our family) won't get Spore until, like, 600 years after its released :P

I really don't think a C3D would be as spectacular as everyone thinks. Moddability has been the cornerstone of the Creatures community since it began, and a new 3D game would make creating 3rd party add-ons a heck-of-a-lot harder without any official tools (which most 3D games don't ship with, Sims2 for ex.), *especially* in the area of animation. Not to mention it would also slice the number of able-bodied developers by… incredible odds!!! Leaving only those with 3D knowledge to do the community’s bidding (although it might attract some new people, but still). Also, considering the great number of polygons required in populating the game world with a proper ecosystem (let alone norns) I don’t feel the computer power required to make the game substantially worthy of continuing the series, is commonplace in the general home.

Another 2D game is the most logical solution. I think Creatures is still very marketable and I disagree with the common belief in the majority of people’s lack of interest in AI/AL style games. For goodness sakes, if simulation games with titles like: “Kitties” and “Puppies”, can be sold in the local game shops, Creatures has more than a fair chance at making a comeback! But it’s true they will still have trouble getting a publisher, as most will not even consider non-3D games.

Add-ons would be nice, but it's highly unlikely that GW would divert any of its employees to making anything for what they currently consider, a game with no marketability. And I’m alright with that, I’ve always thought the 3rd party add-ons were great.

What I want is less hardwired behaviour! That was the best part of C1/C2 - no one knew what they'd do. Not even the programmers. C3/DS took too much of that out, IMO. give them a neural net, a set of instincts, a body & organs & let them go for it. Concentrate on expanding the sensory capabilities, mental capacity etc. The graphics are good enough, lets see more science back in the game :) I want neurochemical synthesis that can lead to interesting mentalities like you'd get in a real living creature. Though it'll likely put a strain on older boxes. Smarter norns please!
As for 3D, I work in 3D already and yet I'll have to learn a whole new method to do anything for Sims2. Why? Because the software I use isn't mesh based :( People using Blender wouldn't have a problem though.
/me wishes POVRay could export to mesh natively

I've got Blender, but I took one look at it and turned a funny shade of grey/purple.
Talk about funny buttons...
Anyways, I think that if they do a C3D, it would have to more of a platform game than an AL, because developing stuff would simply fade out.
Then I'd be out of business O_o

platform game meaning what? like a console?

*nongamer*

speaking of creatures on consoles - they did something like that, didn't they? With the old creatures versions? I'm pretty sure they did it with petz.

I'm just thinking... why? Doesn't console mean that you constantly have to be active in the game, constantly controlling something? That's another thing I likes about creatures - I could just let the game go on while doing something else. I'd leave it on while i went to school and came home to see what happened. Wolfling runs!

The thing about the Sims comparison - I've never really playes the sims, but as far as I know, you constantly have to participate in it, don't you? Like the people won't go into the bathroom until you tell them to? If you left the game on and left it for a long time, nothing much would happen right?

anyway, that's a way in which creatures was way more AL than the sims. If "god" wasn't there to control everything, life still went on.

I realize that this didn't add to much of the point. And I'm speaking of c1 and c2 as usual, I don't know how much it really applies to c3/ds. But it would be nice if this factor could be considered in those vaguely possible future creaturesy games.

...Anyways, making more norn breeds wouldn't seem logical after Creatures 3 has been out for so long. Besides, how many breeds could you have? They already have, in my opinion, too many :P

But if it's a new game, all the old breeds probably wouldn't be compatible. C2 breeds don't go in C3 (extra head poses and different file format) without work to convert them. C1 breeds won't go into C2 without extra work, either. Same reasons. It can be done, but how many people who created all the older breeds are still around or contactable to either do it or get permission? Anyway, maybe a new game would allow more breed slots to avoid the annoying overlapping we already have with all the games? I mean, I gave up on my breed when people kept taking the slot I'd reserved on the Official List (the CDN had a list of official slots taken & mine WAS listed in a slot, but several breeds came out in the same slot so I gave up)

(Angel, a platform game is the ones like Spyro where you jump around and collect stuff)
I have to put my poor Balrogs in with the Bald Norns from Hell :P
I think a new Creatures game should so be the traditional 2D type.
And have a fifth creature species! :D

Yeah, I'm sure that Gameware has noticed that people have always responded better to Creatures 2 then any of the other Creatures games... so I suppose that they would be making it like an updated version of C2-- if they do ever make C4 anyways.

o.O Do none of you read what Lisa says over at Gameware?

Gameware has no plans to make any more creatures games at this point, and if they did, it would probably be 3D. They would first have to find someone to fund them though, which is probably not going to happen.

They also don't plan to make any more add-ons for the current games.

If the community wants a new game, they're going to have to make it themselves.

openc2e is well on the way to becoming a viable platform for this. Development is still quite active and the engine is improving all the time. The biggest problem lies in getting actual game content, especially art. Unsurprisingly, it seems to be very difficult to actually pull together enough stuff to make an entire game out of.

I'm gonna go with Muffin on this one. Any new games will probably be community made.

Which may very well be exactly what needs to happen. openc2e opens up many possibilities to make changes and expand on already existing elements that we may be able to come up with much more diverse programs.

Personally, openc2e excites me like nothing else. I'd love to do whatever I can for any projects using the program.

Course, I'm an artist who can't code or program for the life of me, and seeing as there are so many other great artists in the community anyway, I might not be of much use. =D
