I've played Creatures 1, 2, 3, and DS years ago but never really got into the community (though I did download COBs and Agents.) I stopped playing it when I upgraded my computer to Windows XP and it was no longer compatible with the games. The good news is, I found out about Creatures: Exodus and Creatures: The Albian Years yesterday! I decided to go and order Exodus, and hopefully I will get it soon!   angel51431     6/28/2007 y'know, you can get the games to function on XP - there's a trick option that makes the computer run like its windows 98 or something like that. I've done it before. Maybe some of the techies can give you a better explanation - but its possible to get them to work just fine. also welcome and stuff Yes, I'm the forum ... Any questions? Rascii: You make my life difficult, angel.   Data     6/28/2007 I've always had hassles with the 98 compatibility mode in XP In the end I gave up in disgust & just used my seperate 98 box Fewer hassles that way. Sure, it's not as powerful as the XP box, but for some reason the games run faster on it anyway (even when the XP box was a dual boot, the games were slower on it. Go figure - a 3GHz should run faster than a 1.3GHz not the other way around) Hi to everyone who's come in recently I hadn't checked this thread in a bit Back again! Beware!   Wup   6/29/2007 Yep, you can run the program in compatibility mode and it'll work. That's the only reason why I can still play C2 after we finally chucked our 98. Right click on the C1 program and click the 'Properties' option. Then click on the 'Compatibility' tab. Check the box that says 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and choose 'Windows 98' or something like that. There you go! ^_^ Man, that's the second time I had to explain that whole thing this month! ps. I've been playing Creatures since I was around 8 (17 now, started with Creatures 2). I've never really been involved in the community, but I was a spectacular leecher. Loves my COBs. So the other day, I got the urge to play again (happens once in a while). I dug out Creatures 2, and realized I haven't played in a long time. All my old COB files were lost. Dang. So I went on the internet, found the Wiki, and went fishing around in the Website list. Horrified, I found that a bunch of the old sites were gone! Even Helen's Bibble Directory was down! Nooo! ; ; So basically, I come back to find the CC in late stages of decay. Sad stuff. Then I decided, well, I just needed to involve myself! And here I am! Of course, I won't be any help, but I figure it's nice to just be here. Must be encouraging to get new members, right? Wow, that was long. >_> Oops? Don AmberCreatures   Pulppu   8/10/2007 I've been playing C3 and DS for week or two now(not sure, my sense of time is confused) I read article about Creatures when i was kid, but we had terrible computer in home back then and there was no hope it would run on it. So i forgot the thing for years. Later i became hugely interested in artificial life and i studied that a lot.(studied in my own i mean, im too dumb to school ) Anyways, when reading about games with AI i remembered that article from the past. And what it did to me. o___o At first i played the games even 10 hours a night, i was really addicted, i didnt think anything else but sweet little norns, i even dreamed about them. When walking on the streets i watched people thinking "hmmm, what if i'd put HIM and HER to gene splicer, what it would look?" o__O But now after two weeks(or something) i have got my sanity back and lifes normal, exept i still play lot Creatures and im better mood all the time. Now im trying to learn about Norns genetics and brains more, and hope that my own brains were bit more reasonable. :E Good to be here in this forum. None of my friends play Creatures. I am a little nervous just typing this! It's nice to see everyone enjoying the Creatures games so much. I still enjoy them although I've been playing them on and off for years. ^_^ Lol. My favourite types of creatures to play with are Norns and my fave colour is red. I'm back after 11 years. Holy dooley!   christopherdoyo   11/26/2007 Hello Everyone -- My name is Christopher Doyon, and I am the founder of the MLAI Foundation - which studies Artificial Intelligence and Machine Life. I do not "play" the "game" for fun, but rather I use it in my lab as a platform for studying Machine Life and learning. I am nevertheless a very great believer in the Creatures platform. I do mostly breeding experiments, and lately I am specializing in Norns with super-natural powers, such as invisibility, levitation, transmorphing through floors - and teleportation. As a special present to the last person to get welcomed in this thread, I offer SpringRain and all of you my lovely Crimson Norns. They have no special abilities or powers. I designed the genome myself to make a nice, hardy - and baseline Norn. They are however a pretty shade of red. Enjoy. Crimson Norns There is an Agent file and a Gen file, just put them in the correct folders and you should be able to use your egg layer to hatch some. I have also incuded two demo-creatures, a breeding pair that are babies with no training. So, hello everyone. It's good to be here. Please remember that MORE users is not necessarily a good thing. I first got Creatures 2 when I was 5 or 4 I don't know. Anyway, I didn't know how to play it, and I unfortunately lost it. In 2004, my dad found it, and I sparked an immediate interest to it. In December, in 2007, I got Creatures Triple Collection, and it's the best! Neither look forward where there is doubt nor backward where there is regret.
