I'm really curious about different kinds of challenges, runs, play styles, etc. I know about Wolfling Runs, Hera Runs, and the like, but what are some others? What do you like to do? I'm always looking for new things to try |

Some smaller challenges would be that you could set out to try and breed a particular look for a creature. You could, say, take 3 breeds, decide "I want the head and tail of A, the torso of B, and the arms and legs of C" and see how many generations it takes you to get there.
You could perhaps even add more abstract traits into the mix, such as that creatures must inherit the amphibious trait from one breed on top of your desired look.
Another classic is to get a full population of color-mutated creatures, starting only with default-color base genomes.
Generally speaking, breeding for certain traits is a good fit for a game series like Creatures. Like I said, you can try to approach it like a speedrun, attempting to use the fewest generations or the lowest time possible, or you can take a calmer "the way is the goal" type of approach and try to get there in a relaxed fashion.
Just try to be aware of how achievable certain things actually are. You can, for example, make creatures gradually more sturdy against certain poisons, but it is unlikely that you will completely "flip" the immune system and turn them into homebrew Toxic Norns.

Thanks! Yeah, I enjoy breeding random creatures together to see what the different combinations can create. I had no idea they could be made sturdier against poisons, that's so cool!
I'm generally always looking for gameplay challenges a la wolfling runs, so if you hear of any good ones, please let me know |

Have you tried fully reactivating the Shee Ark while using this modification? This is more of a gameplay challenge rather than something related to breeding, but it could make for an interesting time

I enjoy downloading "strange" creatures from TCR and trying to assemble an area that can meet all their needs, ex. fitting toys, food, and comfort items into a tiny space for a creature with a gait mutation that make it barely able to get around, and make it so that they can see and talk to other creatures, but other creatures can't get at the strange one's stuff. It's a fun "husbandry puzzle" that really gets you thinking about how to use what's available to you. |

I recall a VERY difficult challenge of trying to breed treehuggers with toxics. Reason being, treehuggers are more fragile and toxics find medicine poisonous. I don't think I ever did that challenge successfully.

Most things breed poorly with toxic norns tbh.
One of the funniest crosses I had was treehugger/hardman. Those guys had such a messed up personality, flipping between angry and scared constantly.

Creatures is such a robust ALife game that you can even be an unethical backyard breeder!
I also enjoy having "garden worlds" with no / minimal creatures in them at all, just plants, bugs, and critters. It's very peaceful. |

You know, this sounds pretty cool! It would be nice if there were more COBs/agents that were focused on interesting ecological interactions and stuff...

I couldn't find any difference between the immune systems of Treehuggers and other standard DS genomes when I checked them except they get more fear from fear toxin (also they are less easily stressed which arguably makes their immune systems better). Interestingly though, the standard C3 genomes take more organ damage from antigens than the DS breeds, so breeding Toxics with Bengals would actually make a better challenge than breeding them with Treehuggers.
I can also think of a few good challenges using TWB and TCB breeds.

Wouldn’t the half-life of toxins being longer make them naturally harder to clear from their bodies?

I had checked the chemical half-lives of antigens in Treehuggers but not toxins, having gone back to check them against a standard DS genome however, they are still the same. If they had been longer though this would be true.
Edit: I just realised the genome i'm checking is CFE, but I don't think Vampess would have altered something like this?

I compared the civet genes to the Treehuggers a while ago, you can see the raw output here: https://app.box.com/s/9b139e21ba75e82fa786

That shows pretty well the weaker immune systems of C3 genomes compared to DS ones, the Civet even has longer antigen and toxin chemical half-lives than the Treehugger (for example, Treehugger glycotoxin has a half-life of 78 while the Civet's half-life is 83) and fewer antibodies to start with.

Huh! I'm not sure where I got the idea that Treehuggers are more fragile, then. Maybe it was some lore element that I read a long time ago. I might've also just assumed that since the Treehugger pack came with medicine, it meant the needed it more - like the Hardman norns and the calm balm.

One thing I need to try is to mess around more with the splicer... I haven't really touched it and I kinda wanna make a mad science based ship, since I usually do a lot of pampering on my files. Devote it more to a story in a sense then a typical wolfling run. |

I honestly thought the same thing, so don't feel too bad. I was definitely taken in by the lore stuff.

That actually sounds really cool. Imagine the kinds of crazy combinations you could end up with!

Papriko, that is so funny! Sounds like me, lol (the flipping between scared and angry part I mean). Do you have any videos? I need to see this insanity for myself.
