Creatures websites are dying out left and right, making the best mods harder and harder to obtain. The games themselves have no official support and are showing their age, and there's no sign of a new game on the horizon.

It's no wonder that many have moved on to greener pastures, yet there's still people who remain.

To the people who are still here: what keeps you here? Is Creatures just that lovable a game for you? Are the embers just that cozy? Or do you hope that there's still a chance for life to bloom once more?

As for me...I don't know. I haven't touched the games in a while, with nothing motivating me to do so. I honestly don't think I'd lose much from leaving. I guess it's just habit at this point; I've been involved in the community for over ten years now, and even if nothing much happens anymore it'd feel odd to stop now.

I've always enjoyed the Creatures series and now that Albian Warp is up and running it's reignited my interest for C3/DS. I rarely play the others though, due to instability (C2, I'm looking at you) and norns that don't have very good survival instincts.

I've seen this website change over the years and I'm glad it's still around. Just a shame can't be said for some of the other websites such as Albia 2000.

I honestly, only found out these games existed a year ago, and I think they are very interesting! I play c3/ds most because it runs pretty good and has allot of content, both 3rd party and official. I also play cv. Tried to play c1/c2 with no luck. c2 has the black box of doom and c1 just never lauches. I joined this site for the great content, the creatchi is also great.
And out of most of the many games I play, this one has the nicest community.

A big part of it for me is just that I really like using the genetic manipulation tools, and I know of no other games that simulate biochemistry to this degree while still looking like a game and not a tech demo.

I love creatures. I love the norns, I love that the game is basically a big ol' digital antfarm with creatures to take care of.

Plus there's no other game like creatures out there!

I admire Steve Grand a lot. I have nostalgia for the game, Creatures Playground was my first favorite game ever. I think I can learn a lot as a programmer by creating for Creatures and mimicking it.

Creatures was such a huge part of my childhood that I could never let it go in a million years. The CC is like my family now.

While I've been too busy to play lately, this series and community has a special place in my heart. Someone's gotta keep the awareness of this series going, otherwise it'd truly die out and that'd be a shame. Plus with all the mods that get made, there's always something to look forward to.

I love Creatures very dearly. Even though I tend to go through periods of playing constantly and then taking breaks, the game holds a special place in my heart. It's safe to say this is my all-time favorite video game.

I think it's incredibly interesting and unique, and the complexity of how the game works is impressive for the time it came out. On top of that, the community has been able to keep adding new things to the game that they've made themselves, even over twenty years after its initial release, because the developers gave us the tools to do so! I think that's really fascinating.

Creatures has meant to much to me from when I was a seven year old child playing C1, to when I started connecting with the community as a disastrously lonely and nerdy high school girl.

Still, I'd pretty much let it go when the last site left was CCaves, and I wasn't really feeling part of the community anymore.

Here everyone seems to be expert cobblers and genetic engineers, so I didn't understand most of what people are talking about.

These days, the CCSF wolfling run and the new Warp have rekindled my interest in playing the game, while the Discord groups have been a way to reconnect with the community, and be of some use. My favorite part was always helping the newbies, so a stagnant community left me no way to contribute. I don't know if it'll last, but I feel like we're having a bit of a revival, and I'm enjoying it.

I've always played simulation and pet games, I grew up on Petz, Zoo Tycoon, Creatures 1, Black and White, etc. I keep coming back to them, there's nothing quite like them. If someone came up with a better version or a proper sequel I'd probably jump ship. The simulation genre is fairly stagnant, so this is where I get my fix.

As for the community... It's also really cool seeing what ideas people come up with? I love when people come up with a new tweak, or a new agent. I can't write any code, but I can open up the genetics kit and come up with something new anytime! That's an awesome feeling, and I want to encourage that in others, even if it's a little comment, play testing something, or a thumbs up!

It'll probably never have the popularity that it had, but there's still quite a few of you out there, and some new blood. If there's someone out there to talk to I'll still pop in from time to time to see what you all are up to!

This. [ngrin] This is why I love the Creatures community! It never really gets old because there's always new content being added, and it's such an amazing platform for creativity.

I'm not a "gamer", and there's about 4 video games I ever play regularly, besides the Creatures series. I've been playing since C1 came to the US in 97, and I keep coming back to it because it's got everything I want. Watching this series and its community develop has been a rollercoaster to say the least.

You can play casually, you can play with a goal, you can mostly ignore it with wolflings or you can micromanage, or you can get creative with customization or genetics...it matches any mood. There's so many "levels" of play and different skills that can be used to make it always fresh. But I also see such *lost potential* in it that I keep returning with the hopes of making it just a little bit better, or experiencing some new discovery.

I guess I'm emotionally invested even without a community, but there always seems to be a core base of people still active, which is amazing! But unlike popular current games, I don't worry about "keeping up" with the crowd, and can play or participate at my own pace. Also with a smaller crowd I can feel like my personal contributions make a difference.

I don't plan on stopping even if I'm the last man standing so I hope Creatures history will last a long time.

I guess you could say i used to play this game in the early 2000's.My father used to play it as a kid and he introduced it to me,I (being the gamer girl many know) played it with my hearts desire. My first creatures game ever was C1. When I was little i didn't know you would need to feed the norns so usually they only lasted 2-3 hours(Poor norns [nsad]).Then when I was introduced to C2 i was a bit better, only i was a little mad because usually my norns would ALWAYS have a tired face.

Oh boy..C3..When i got C3 i finnaly was able to download my own breeds by myself. And if i saw a grendel hitting one of my norns i would usually slap them to death (But veev, grendels have hearts too![nsad]).Same thing would usually happen if i saw a ettin hitting a norn,i was a bit less harsh with norns hitting other norns though.I absolutely hated it when a norn would keep saying "Me like (etc, etc)" simply because this happened to much in my world.Although besides that it was probably my most favourite game in the franchise.

CV? Well yeah,I was introduced to that too.But it was a bit before i got C3.It was a fun game but theres not really much to talk about it.

Ds took FOREVER to get fixed and running. If i did'ent join this community i still would'nt know how to get that running. This is probably second on my best of the creatures franchise simply because it has a bit more cobs than any other of the games. When i first got it,i broke it.Why?I (being curious at the time) tried to go online when the servers were not running. It broke my game the second time i tried to get it running.
I stay because i love this place, the AI is very good. The community is very very very good (nothing like bullying happens here!).I can install things for my games,i can make cobs for the game and etc. This is probably the best community i have ever seen.

i love waffel! :P
