User Apocolyptik recently stumbled across their parent's old backup CDs full of downloaded content for all main games in the series. They have kindly uploaded this archive, which can now be found here!

Have a pore through it, and see if you spot anything rare or previously lost. If there is, I highly recommend mirroring those files in your own online archives so that the files can survive into the future. In a world where data can disappear in the blink of an eye, finds like these from years gone by can be a goldmine.

Thanks again Apocolyptik for your efforts!

Maybe I should upload my archive as well. Last time I mentioned it here I got a very clear no, glad we're a little more relaxed these days.

I have my own private archive too, but it's remaining request-only as I know that certain CC members don't allow their content to be openly hosted on other websites.

Yeah indeed.
I myself rather want my stuff stay on my site as long its alive & working.
I mean,it s a reason I put my creation on my own homepage.
it's the main home for my files, and that I can update them too if needed.
Its different if Im not around at all and my site died off.

Anyhow, its nice other stuff is at least backed up from people
that isn't at all around anymore thought.
I might have a look and see what things might hide in that archive.

I'm kinda in the same boat as SpaceShipRat & C-Rex. I've got a pretty good archive of my own, & I'm pretty sure there are some lost downloads in it, but I've always hesitated sharing it because of the permissions issue. And as unorganized as my archive is, I know there are a bunch of do not shares mixed in with the ones that don't say whether they can be shared or not.

Ugh, the whole permissions thing drives me up the wall. :P

I think the policy should be: upload your archives, and if anyone still actually cares about their files being mirrored, remove them individually. Problem solved, everyone's happy.

Much of this data is too endangered to care about what someone said on their Geocities page 20+ years ago about rehosting their content. Archiving and ensuring its continued existence should be top priority.

For the record I guess, I have no problem with people re-uploading or editing my work so long as credit is given!

funnily enough, a lot of Geocites sites and 90s-early 2000s GIFs are currently archived/available on various places. pretty sure 99% of these were uploaded without permission, yet nobody cares because the content is so old and even the creators themselves might like to see their work 'live on', so to speak.

time has a funny of way of turning things into pieces of history, as opposed to just 'intellectual property'. at this point, there are downloads for this game that are almost as old as i am.

you had some stuff that i was 10000% certain would be gone forever, that i was sure nobody but me would ever download. you of all people need to just unload that archive. i bet you probably have over half the missing files for every game in this series

I honestly can't see a problem with sharing content privately, and even if it is publicly hosted, the creator only has to send a single email and it can then be taken down.

A lot of Creatures websites have gone down this past five years, and the community isn't as huge as it used to be. We need to archive as much as possible otherwise a great deal may be lost to the sands of time. But that's just my five cents.
