Meet Dana. She is a Senile Norn, and the [1] first Norn on TheDrunkenNorn's Wolfling Runs that has reached the highest age category without dying. She is currently 6 hours above the estimated death by old age approximation for Akamai Canny Norns.

You see, Wolfling runs are incredibly hard on Norns, and only the best Norns that don't smoke cigarettes get to be among those that reach Senile status ( [1] There were most likely more Norns that have reached Senile status in this series before that I did not note or did not see, but this is the first I've noticed). It figures that Akamai Canny Norns were the only ones able to reach that status, but it is still interesting how crappy of a quality of life these guys have.

Then again, it isn't exactly my fault that they don't sleep when they should, thus causing constant unhappiness. Though, Creatures is supposed to be an interactive game. I can understand the need to make Norns stubborn. If they were self sufficient, Wolfling Runs would have no purpose, and playing the game regularly would have no effect. I enjoy that they have intelligence akin to talking kittens.

Edit: Dana is really good at taking care of her needs. So much so that her Health Kit reading shows only a bit of stress, her status bar reading shows full health at Senile, and she gets along great with most Norns, not getting angry when they slap her. She is the one.

Edit Edit: Page 6! Woot. Every page feels like another step up an incredibly large mountain. What lies at the top, you ask? Unlimited Wolfling Runs, my dear readers. Unlimited Wolfling Runs.

Roll Call:

15 Living Norns
37 Dead Norns
10 Starting Norns (Generation 1)
42 Naturally Born Norns (Not Generation 1)

Fawn is a beautiful neon-Norn that was born a few hours ago. Apparently the static abomination coloration is still prevalent in this group. This is another that was born naturally, too.

Guess what guys? [nblank]

Another crazy, inexplicable error message that completely breaks the run. I can't even get the Roll Call for the past 6 hours.

Unexpected file format? What? Was one of the Norns accidentally born a .jpg?

______________________________Diverse Diet Kannova Norns Wolfling Run_____________________________

This is a Norn breed recommended to me by Puddini. I'll be running these guys with the same old usual above-ground setup, and we'll see how it goes!

One thing: I like Kannovas, almost as much as I like Akamai Cannies. An updated Kannova Norn sounds like quite the treat, if it works. Apparently, it is untested.

I will test them. War is coming, with all its glory, and all its horror.

Anyway, sorry it's been so long since I've updated. I got a little tired of Creatures 2, and decided to play other games. However...

Unlike the other runs, this one is littered with alternate food options (Meat Vines, Water Fountains, Fruit Basket, Et Cetera) so that the Diverse part of the Kannova will be used more often.

Most Norns survive fine off of Meat Vines, but we'll see how these guys do.

Importing them in 3, 2, 1...

GOTTA BLAST.

All of the Norns in this pack look nearly exactly the same. I hate this. There are four, and I did not duplicate/clone more into existence, so this run will start with 4.

Update: Well then. All of the little babies' drives are hunger. [ndoh]

I went out to get some food at your local drive through because what is health, right?

I come back, and turns out the Norns are not so healthy either.

One of them is dead, and they're all starving. This is only an hour and thirty minutes into the run. They're only adolescents at this point, and yet one of them is already dead.

Thank you GimmeCat. Imgur is working fine for me, I wonder if it is a local server for you, or something.

The person who was developing the Norn Breed with me just kinda vanished. Not sure what I'll do now about developing it. I certainly don't have the knowledge.

So, the original problem of the Kannova Diverse Norns nearly dying out was just a phase.

They're doing fine now.

There are eggs everywhere, to the point that Wolf Control has crashed already. Here is how well they are doing.

Okay this is craziness. I pop up the Diet Kannovas page to see this. This is why I use Live Birth. They litter the entire map with eggs to the point that I can't see anything but eggs as the egg sprites like to be in front of most other sprites.

I've re-activated Live Birth. This is insanity. [ngrimace]

Can I please have one of these as a pet [nblush][nblush][nblush]

Weird behavior: This Norn is at maximum on all its' needs (It should basically be dead), but instead it writhes and twitches on the ground, shaking non-violently. A slowly shaking sad lich norn. Curiously, the Norn's physical stats are fine.

Meanwhile, this one has no liver, and is in pain constantly. It always has half-max pain, no matter what. Poor thing.

R.I.P. better think hard to get out of this one!

Thank you! That really helps. I've never seen that before.

The Norn later died. He froze to death.

Note: That song link on the post there was all that our local rock station in the U.S. state of Texas would play, for a good 2-3 years. I hate that song because I've heard it upwards of 25+ times now. In Texas, especially the panhandle, unless you really love desert, there is nothing to do but listen to the radio and play games. However, I soon moved to Oregon, an infinitely better state. Oregon is just like Texas, but with TREES. In Oregon everything is trees.

It's in the middle of spring, and I see a considerable bit of them shaking. Huh.

[nblank] They all look exactly the same. While Norns in particular are good at showing individuality, having them all look nearly identical doesn't help. I wish this game had varied height, and color mutation more often. At this point, they're booooooring. It -also- doesn't help that they all look miserable, all the time. At this current moment, only three of them are happy out of the entire population.

Maybe they're all clones.

I absolutely love Creatures 2, but sometimes it gets to the point to where it is about as boring as watching paint dry.

The underground critter escaped from his cave complex. He now lives in the Norns' old hatchery cave.

Edit: 200th post! Woot.

I just noticed that the graveyard's symbol is a coffin with an embossed Norn head on the cover. Creepy.

One problem I notice with Norn psychology: Constant petting. Norns, no matter what breed, absolutely ADORE giving affection. This would seemingly be troublesome, as this constantly rewards Norns for literally doing nothing. Just something I notice; Norns are always praising each other and rarely punishing each other. I wonder what effect this has on their minds. Spoiled brats.

Check out how many Norns managed to get themselves shuttled up into this tree. They're having a cool party up in the tree (No, they're not. They're just complaining about being hungry [nblank] ).

This Wolfling run is boring me to tears. I think I'm starting to get sick of Creatures 2, if such a thing ever existed. Something about hearing the same 6 or so soundbytes of Norns socializing tends to get grating. However, I will prevail. Creatures 2 will not beat me down!

I'm ending this run arbitrarily!

Here's another wallpaper since I haven't done one in awhile, with 100% less Norns and 66.66666% more Comic Sans!

Hello again guys! Today, we are going to play with immortality. Muhahaha.

One of our own community members, Puddini. He has uploaded an elderly norn said to possess...

...eternal life...

*Indiana Jones music blares, as the camera pans over an ancient temple*

So, I'm putting it to the test. It is -very- rare for me to see Norns with eternal life in Creatures 2. It is common in Creatures 1, but in Creatures 2 they took great measures to prevent that from happening.

This wolfling run will include Clytia, an immortal. At first, I will import just the norn. If things get too boring, I will import some Akamai Canny friends.

Did I mention it's an Akamai Canny Norn? :D :D :D :D :D (You MAY be aware that Akamai Canny is my favorite breed, no?) This is really exciting. I'm incredibly hyped to be bored out of my mind.

I'm lazy, so I'm just going to export all of the useless Diet Kannova Norns, and just plop Clytia in there.

See you guys on the flip side. 8)

(P.S. I kinda miss Valentine Norns, and Flora Norns, and Dewa Norns. They were pretty special. Valentine Norns were an absolute gem, one that I should have saved for Valentines DAY, in hindsight. They are easily my second favorite breed so far. Then again, I don't know any other fun breeds like that. If you guys know any absolutely bonkers breeds, please let me know by posting here.)

Oops!

This will be an example of how the by-the-seat-of-my-pants series method will come to bite me in the butt. The download for this immortal norn doesn't seem to work (I've tried on multiple computers with multiple people). My best hope is that the author of the upload sees my cries of madness left on his file, and fixes it.

Edit for mods: The file itself downloads fine, but it does not unzip.

If any of you see a fix to the file, please let me know! Otherwise, I'm putting this series on hold until I can contact Puddini again.

See you guys next time!

Alright, I'm going to go with Malkin's suggestion of continuing via the newly designed Kannova Venterra breed. I'll get in touch with Puddini whenever I can.

Thank you for the recommendation, Malkin!

I use enough exclamation points [nscared] on this series to suffocate a Metal Gear Solid guard. Not a terrific habit.

Alright, one thing I must make clear: I have NOT read the forum posts or devlogs on these Norns.

However, I do know that these are essentially a mix of Kannova and Nova Subterra Norns. I am going to be reviewing my experiences with these Norns WITHOUT the bias of knowing what they're supposed to accomplish. I don't know any other changes to the breed (And trust me, there are a great deal of changes, from what I gather).

______________________________________Kannova Venterra Norns________________________________________

I've imported 6 of the cute little buggers, and I've left their sprites on default out of ease.

I'm -also- using the same map as the Diverse Diet Kannova Norns. Diverse Diet Kannova Kannova Venterra Map

So far from what I can gather these Norns love to explore. Within 5 minutes of the run, they've spread out across the entire game world. Secondly, they moonwalk like nobody's business; I've seen them walk backwards multiple times. Huh.

After about 15 minutes or so of gameplay, the Norns have decided to congregate around the right side of the volcano (Similar to how most Norns congregate around the left side of the volcano).

Irrelevant edit: I enjoy this series' tendency to post obscure links instead of memes. I hope that will begin to set it apart from lots of internet series' that dissolve into nothing but memes.

I observed some of the elderly Norns instructing their own on proper use of language. Unlike most of the attempts however, they actually attempted to teach their young, saying words multiple times so that they could pick it up. Cool observation I made.

I've learned from Malkin that the type of Kannova Venterra Norn I'm breeding is less prone to pregnancy and needs fat to breed. Apparently, the 'altered' breed is a more difficult breed (Why would they make Norns harder to deal with???).

They love the area around the volcano, and they basically live there.

From what I can tell, they survive just as well as most Kannova Norns, but do much better than Nova Subterra. This isn't saying much, considering that Nova Subterra Norns are garbage, but I'm a bit impressed that they are actually doing really well for a fairly recent project. However, I also note that the developers made them -harder- to breed. Finally, I'm noticing that overall, Akamai Canny Norns have a much better quality of life than these Norns, taking care of their needs much more effectively than Kannova Venterra (Altered Breed).
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Good things about Kannova Venterra Altered Breed (from MY personal observations):

They like to go left instead of right, and gravitate that way. This is interesting, as most Norns I've seen gravitate right.

They seem to explore much more than typical Norns, even Akamai Canny ones.

They are better than Nova Subterra Norns.

They are more interesting than Kannova Norns
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Bad things about Kannova Venterra Altered Breed (from MY personal observations):

They are still not a superior breed, being dwarfed in ability to take care of their needs by the Akamai Canny master race.

The Altered Breed for them is actually harder to breed, which boggles my mind.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I absolutely recommend this breed to anyone who wants a different Creatures 2 experience. They're fairly plain, proving themselves to be no better than Kannova Norns, but they're interesting, and they bring a tiny bit of freshness and uniqueness with them. I can imagine left versus right gang wars, where Creatures 2 fans fight in the streets with bats and 9mm Pistols aimed sideways about whether or not the left or right direction is the superior direction for a Norn to gravitate towards. Also, if you don't restrict these Norns, they'll be everywhere. They're pretty good at exploring, and I haven't seen any get stuck in a place for long.

This Wolfling Run is completed. Not out of being finished; oh no. I'm going to be trying out the other version of Kannova Venterra Norn too! And... to be honest, I don't want to spend 2 full-length Wolfling Runs playing the game with the two same breeds.

So, I'll see you all next time, when I'll be making another Wolfling Run on basically the exact same breed! [nlaugh]

Quick hello from a fan! Reading this thread encouraged me to run my own wolfing runs (short-lived as they were, due to Windows 10 complications...) so it's always fun to see you describe what's going on in vivid detail - makes me less lonely for Norn silliness. Looking forward to your continued experiments with the Kannovas!

@Brynn

Thank you very much for reading! Support from people like yourself is what keeps me doing this (God knows I don't do it for fun, lol). I'm really happy that my series has caused you to experience more of Creatures. :)

Windows in general is against you being able to run Creatures at all (Even with the G.O.G. port). It was an uphill battle getting every Creatures game to work, and even still there are always compatibility issues. I can't even fathom how Windows 10 does (I run on Windows 7, a relatively easy OS compatibility-wise).

I imagine reading my Wolfling Runs is something like watching a forum thread by Max Payne reviewing Creatures 2, complete with the angst, dark humor, and self-loathing. I've posted everything from wacky and silly stuff to absolute love for Creatures 2 to a horribly pessimistic hatred of Creatures 2. It's all been fun, and I plan to continue as much as possible.

Max Bibble: I sit alone in my hatchery. My wife, killed by that son-of-a-**** hand. Got a few COBs for a bar, and some whisky. Everything I loved was taken from me. I'm going to strike back at that hand. Soon, I'm going to make him pay for what he's done. When he's away... I'm going to cause a fatal error that'll corrupt his game world beyond compare: "Unexpected file type". He'll never see it coming.

On a side note: I'm moving! I've been updating mid-move, my computer and myself are literally on the floor.

On a side side note: If you have Netflix or an internet connection, watch Dark Matter. It's a really good space show, its' quality and superb writing make it one of my favorite shows. Am I paid to endorse that show? No, I wish I was sponsored to sit around all day playing video games. Speaking of moving, my TV and PS3 are also on the floor. My PS3 is suspended by a Monopoly box so that it doesn't overheat.

Thank you everyone that has been reading, and I hope you guys have a great Halloween! My birthday was on the 16th, I got some cool stuff.

You guys ever suspect that my posts are so long only because I go on tangents?

*CoughCough*

I normally just look at the forums occasionally but seeing as Malkin actually bothered to get you to play my breed, I felt obligated to actually register and comment. I'll give a wider rundown of my thoughts on the matter when the hour is less ungodly...

But I was absolutely terrified to find out someone would be trying a wolfling run with those. Based on what I tried to get the breed to do it just seemed like a terrible idea!

I am very happy they didn't turn out that bad (Though I will defend Nova Subterras in my later response, even though I know you dislike them), and that they actually starred here! Yours was one of the couple topics I occasionally checked on here.

Interesting piece of information : It is super fortunate you are using the Meat Vine as the primary food source. In my experience so far it is the second (or arguably the first because it self-replenishes) most effective food cob created (though seriously my C2 norns basically have full tummies because of GimmeCat and Monika Darwin). I wouldn't be surprised, however, if with the altered breed using those as the food source made the altered breed better breeders than the regular breed at later stages of life. It literally contains all of the things they need to breed effectively.

I'll certainly be interested to see if this is the outcome! Big thanks for trying them out.

I document some of my playthroughs in a blog-style fashion with comments enabled. I may just change them into a blog, but if you're interested in reading such things beforehand, feel free!
