 | It's been a while since I last submitted some Creatures fan art. Here's a Toxic Norn chilling in his poisonous swamp. ^^ |
 | I'm making a low poly (hah... still 2000+ tris, low poly isn't my thing) base for Norns. Not sure yet how I'll do the face, fur and the tail and such... |
 | Here is an updated concept of the female Punk Norn as an adult. I personally like this one better to the last version and this one is made as a comparison image to the male version I did before. Let me know what you think about the design. I am working on and off on the breed, it would be nice if I knew how to make this process faster, but so far its going slowly. Either way, I hope for these to be a legitimate C2 breed soon. |
 | I had an interesting thought which inspired this picture.
What if Grendels, like Ettins, were made for a purpose? The wiki says they were an experiment gone wrong. This got me thinking what that purpose might be and what they may have originally looked like.
Since Grendels are always stealing eggs, I imagined maybe their purpose was to collect and care for the eggs of other creatures. Perhaps they used to be cute and fluffy, covered in feathers, that they then lost to adapt to a dirty jungle environment full of hostility.
Anyway, here's this little guy's story:
The egg layer was given very vague instructions, simply to create a creature capable of caring for other creature's eggs. The Shee had grown quite tired of always looking after the Norn's eggs, which never seemed to make it into the incubator despite how hard the Shee tried to teach them. It was starting to inconvenience tea time. The fluffy critter popped out of the egg and stared with large reptilian eyes at the gathered expectant Shee. They whispered among each other, agreeing it had a certain charm to it. At this, the little creature's feathery crest raised in interest.
"We'll see how it performs later in life," they decided.
It quickly became clear that of all their creations, he was the dumbest. Frequently he would seek out Norns and mindlessly steal their eggs. When the Norns protested, he'd slap them away, causing serious injury. He would be drawn to the hatchery, the home of Norns, as intended. But once there he would cause utter chaos, slapping indiscriminately and shaking the egg around.
"This is a disaster," one of the Shee said.
"What shall we do?"
"We'll just have to care for the Norn's eggs ourselves. Let's just shut off the egg layer and shoo him out of here," they decided.
The confused Grendel took refuge in the jungle. The Shee tossed their malfunctioning egg layer into the trash in said jungle, certain the creature would live out its confused existence and then their troubles would be over. Instead, the egg layer continued on its quest, creating more. Every time a Grendel died, it would replace it with another hatchery worker better suited for the environment. No matter how many times the Shee shut it off, or tried to destroy it, it kept appearing and creating more. They started to become distorted, they were thriving in the jungle instead of the Norn hatchery. The egg layer was so persistent it showed up in all their ships there after. Like a virus, their biological technology was infected with it. It was clear that for as long as their were Norns and Ettins there would be Grendels. Some even took a liking to the creatures, whose egg keeper traits became twisted by necessity.
I hope you guys enjoy my goofy little story! |
 | This is just one of my concept heads for the female Punk Norn. Bn I thought bright pink and a short spiky hairstyle mimics the male of the breed. I don't know if I will continue to use this one but perhaps.
Let me know what you think of it. |
 | Here is something I might make into a breed if I can get past some of the bumps I'm running into. I am not sure if the head will fit well on the body. But I don't know how to code body data. I'm best at the spriting part of breed designing.
But either way, this is what I'm spriting away at. I might do more of these in the future if I ever figure out to make this one into a finished breed for C2. |
 | Mini turtle grass!
Spoiler: It's for the Aquatilis pod. Since the pod is effectively a miniature version of the Aquatilis Caverna flora and fauna, and has much less space, I figured maybe a dwarf version of the previous plant would fit in very cutely. <3 |
 | This time, the design is based on turtle grass! c:
Also I originally entered these to the 'art' folder by mistake, but considering that they're not raw sprites looking for projects and more a showcase, I guess it works~
This is for the Aquatilis Caverna version of the Aquaplant. It's not necessarily as ornate as the previous ones, but equally I figure Aquatilis has a lot going on already, so something that is more subtle and blends in seemed nice. It let me reference a real ocean sea-grass too. <3 |
 | Remember that post I made about angry Norns? Well, I don't think people read the part where I said what do you think they look like enraged, and people thought angry, when I really meant THIS enraged. |
 | Some food for the Creatures animated thing. |
 | No prizes for guessing which metaroom this is for: Nornhulu!
This version of the aquaplant isn't based on anything realistic, rather it's a fantasy plant based on the lovecraftian theme of the room itself. With any luck, it should gel more than the original aquaplant sprite does, and still add some fun (and edible) variation to the aquatic life there. c:
-As with before, I'll probably end up recompiling this myself with the other aquaplant variants! |
 | One of the agents that I got a request to do alternative artwork for was the C3/DS Aquaplant! c:
I actually was going to make it into a pixel version of a vallis spiralis plant, but remembered that those are freshwater! After an adventure of trying to find a flowering saltwater plant (since seaweed and primitive marine plants don't flower), about the only thing I could come up with was the red mangrove tree. They don't usually grow fully submerged during their whole lifespan, but considering that the Aquaplant is quite tall, in shallower pools it may naturally peek over the surface like a real mangrove plant!
I'll probably try and recompile this agent myself sooner or later, after I decide if I want to make more alternate forms for the different metarooms that Aquaplants inject into!! |
 | This one features the female sprites, as well as some other ideas I've had for a while. |
 | Time to stop lurking! Something quick I threw together for a Norn breed that I'm working on, (or attempting to) based on my favorite dinosaur, the archaeopteryx.
While I wanted them to look like a archaeopteryx, I also wanted to try and keep a Norn-ish look to them. The females are darker in color than the males (not shown in the picture) and the males will have a more pronounced crest of feathers on their head, as well as additional colors on the wings perhaps. The yellow on the males' 'bird parts' may be temporary until I can think of a better color (maybe I'll just have both genders look grey-ish). I plan to have them eat mostly bugs and critters, of which I want to make some to go with them.
This is the first time I have attempted to make a Norn breed or any agents, other than the very easy and simple Garden Box stuff, so it seems like a lot of work. I'm hoping to push myself to stick with it so that everyone can have some fluffy, feathery archaeopteryx Norns running around in their worlds!
As I progress, I'll post updates. My mouse art skills aren't the best but I did what I could. I very dearly miss having a drawing tablet. Don't mind the copying and pasting out of laziness. ![[heart] [heart]](/images/smilies/heart.gif) |
 | This is a concept sketch of a critter in the Savannah pack. It's a cross between a zebra and a gazelle: A 'Gazelbra'! |
