Recently I've been thinking of buying myself a couple of books to give myself something to read at night (and an excuse to retire to bed early, otherwise I end up going to bed too late) and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations?

If you can get behind the way it's written, Dune is an excellent choice and a series that I am actually still reading today. I also enjoyed the Sword of Shannara and the Lord of the rings trilogy. If you can read Lord of the Rings/Sword of Shannara without any movies, you'd be more than capable of reading Dune. I also greatly enjoyed the Diskworld series too.

Ohh which books to recommend depends greatly on what you like to read ^-^ I like dystopian sci fi novels like Do androids dream of electric sheep (Blade Runner), 1984, etc.
Discworld novels are so good, I can always recommend them!!
I would also advice to read The Hobbit, I liked that book a lot :)
One of my all time favorites will be Picture of Dorian Gray.
I read 14 books in 2016, some of those books were so cool and others just boring crime stories. I am still stuck with Gulliver's Travels, for me at least there are 2 ways to read it. A as childrens book or B as political satire you have to think about. Since I go with B I do take longer to comprehend everything in a language that isn't my mother tongue.

Dark Tower series if you haven't read them(wild west, sci fi, mystery, horror). I bought the whole collection a few years back after listening to the first on audio tape. I read it for myself after buying the books and I couldn't put it down and was on to the second the next day.. really addictive stuff. The dark tower is also the inspiration for the TV show Lost with the flash back/ flash forward stuff.

Can you name 3 authors that you have liked (or would like to read 'something like that') and why? I've been on a real biographies/'classics' kick lately myself, but if you're not into that, my recs wouldn't be too interesting to you.

After many years, I finally got around to finishing A Series of Unfortunate Events! It is a really good series. I'm also now reading Watership Down. It's been a while since I've read anything so trying to get back into it. I miss going to the library, but everything's too far apart where I live and I don't drive...I'll have to go sometime anyway.

I just started reading Andrzej Sapkowski's The Last Wish, it's apparently the book series that the game series the Witcher were made from. I haven't played the games, since they seem a bit too scary for me. So I figured reading the book might be a bit easier. So far so good, only 13 pages in though :)

If you've got a good internet connection, you might like to see if your library offers e-books. :)

Looks like I found a library kinda close after all, but thank you Malkin for the suggestion!

Now I'm finally reading the Spice and Wolf light novels, I found the entire series at the library and was so glad. There was an anime based off of this series several years ago, but it never got a proper conclusion, so it will be good to read it to the end!

Most of my books are still packed, so I've been reading some strays of my mum's collection. I just finished The Cobra Event by Richard Preston, and it was incredible. If you enjoy medical fiction, I highly recommend it.
