anyone here play Spore or Darkspore? I just started playing Darkspore. I love it. I wanted to see if anyone could tell me a bit about spore.

I have Spore, haven't played in a while. I heard Darkspore is completely different though.

I played Spore when it originally came out, never got any of the expansions. While I really enjoyed building stuff in the creature creator, it just didn't live up to the hype. Seeing everyone on here picking it up makes me really tempted to give it a second chance, though.

Never heard of Darkspore. Google it to find its probably my type of game...and also no longer for sale. Seems to be a running theme these days!

I play Spore all the time, and it's awesome, even without internet access.

Dienes, from what I've read, Darkspore was abandoned for a reason. There's always one thing or another going on with the servers, and it's plagued with game-breaking glitches such as not being able to save changes to your hero. There's always the Dark Injection mod for the original Spore game, but it only adds the parts and also screws with the shading in the early creature editor. It requires Galactic Adventures, too.

I'm seeing Spore this, Spore that lately. It's making me want to jump back into it. I have the whole package just sitting in my Amazon digital library from when they had it on sale a while back... Hmm.

I remember not liking how fast the progression was, but maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Like Dienes said, Spore didn't live up to the hype, it was pretty much the most disappointing game ever for me. I played it for maybe a couple of weeks when I first got it, and now I play it about once a year at the most and just can't get into it. What was even more disappointing was that it only had one real expansion, which was only for space stage, so none of the problems from the other stages ever got fixed and they never had any more depth added to them [nblank] I remember before the game came out, they said that you could stay in each stage for as long as you want, but you really can't because you run out of things to do, and the stages are really short, and I really wish the creature stage in particular was more complex

If you look at the dev videos, they definitely were originally planning it to be bigger, more complex, and closer to an actual a-life sim... Each stage to be a lot more involved, as well as having a lot of more interesting and complex mechanics, there are a lot of features they mentioned that didn't make it in... It's like they specced out the game, made the plans, and then once they figured out the requirements, someone decided, "you know what, this is going to take 3 times as much time and or money than we want to throw at it" and/or "this is too involved and lofty for a game that we think mostly kids will play", so they ended up just kind of half-assing and simplifying everything until it was just a pale mockery of what it was really trying to be.

I totally agree. And what drives me nuts is look at how successful pokemon is! Have you ever tried to breed a competitive team? Way, WAY more complicated than you'd think. And yet 7 year olds play it happily.

I feel the same about spore, though I've tried completely eliminating the grox several times using all the save files and eating away at their territory...it's the only thing that would keep me playing.

I have Spore and the two expansions "creepy and cute " and "Galatic Adventures".
I really loved the game but over the years I lost a lot of motivation for the game. I had so many of the achievements already and from one day to the other my game glitched and I had to reinstall. Not only were the achievements gone but 70% of the stuff I created.
The game truly was revolutionary nevertheless. I think if such a game would come out like next year with great graphics and a bit beefed up game mechanics it could have been a more acknowledged game than it is now.

I thought Spore automatically backed up your creations on the cloud? Apparently not?

Darkspore is basically a Diablo Clone. It has been removed from shelves yes, however the servers are still up. You have to be connected to the Internet at all times. I got a physical copy, and keys are sold on G2A. I bought 2 additional keys from them.

As far as game breaking glitches, I have never seen one in game, and I never had my heroes deleted. The game works just fine for me. Never had an issue.

I have heard from other players, even players getting on at the same time as me, that sometimes the servers will say they are down. Sometimes the patcher will be in the middle of patching, and the patcher will just go away.

The funny thing is, you can still redeem the key on origin. You cannot buy through them, you cannot buy on steam.

The game is horribly cheap. $6 American. Maybe 5 Euros. Maybe 4 Quid or British pounds. ( Thanks Dr. Who for that bit of slang )

Thanks for the info on spore. I was asking because people were asking me about do I play Spore on Darkspore. I told them I have not tried it yet. However tho not living up to the hype, I think I might try it anyway. I thought I would ask people and see what they thought.

I am gonna get on Darkspore right now, if anyone decides they wish to spend money on a key from G2A, my in game name is Lando0086.

I never heard of G2A before. Thanks!

I must admit the 'random Steam codes' sounds both shady and tempting!

I honestly think Spore is a cool game despite not living up to what it wanted to be, I really should get back to it sometime.

Perhaps it's not it wanted to be, but I really enjoyed being immersed in a fantasy world with everyone else's creatures; some of which are absolutely beautiful. I've created some species that I'm really attached to as well.

Plus there's a load of mods I'd like to check out, Dark Injection included.
