Hearing Dead Celebrity's Voice

Since last night, I've noticed something unusual. I can hear a dead celebrity's voice in my mind. He won't go away. He doesn't annoy me as such, but I don't know what he's doing here, or why he has popped up. He claims that I need "help with my life", for example, such as overcoming my fear of dogs and wasps. He says he won't leave me until I'm "cured".

If someone replies to this post, I may reveal the name of the person, since I do recognise his voice.

So my question is this : Is this normal, and is it going to cause me any harm emotionally?

And I also want to know : This has happened to me once a long time ago, so why has it come up again?

This can end up verry harmful to your personal life. Shizophrenia is a disorder that needs treatment, if not it can lead to depression, fear disorders and even suicide.

Seek treatment please. Neurologyst and/or Psychiatrist.

Mother of my girlfriend is shizoprenic, she hears her long passed away dogs talking as guardian spirits and other weird things. As her husband got a stroke, she saw a monster entering the bedroom that attacked him. Without medical treatment she is like crazy and suicidal.

Liil, are you a psychiatrist? If not, I'd suggest you don't go throwing round diagnoses, and certainly not of schizophrenia. Knowing someone with schizophrenia doesn't make you an expert in it.

Espeon_DS, are you stressed, anxious, or sleep deprived? All those things can cause weird effects. The brain is a complex thing. (There are also people in the spriritualist church and other places who would point out that you could have psychic ability - I've heard of some very weird goings-on in my own family I won't bore you with - but you saying that it's a celebrity would give me pause, unless it was someone already known to you or your family.)

First things first - if you're stressed/distressed/tired, sort that out first (bearing in mind that if you go without enough sleep for a long time, you end up not feeling tired). If none of those apply, and you're in good general health, I'd suggest a registered counsellor or psychologist rather than a doctor in the first instance; they can help you work through long-standing problems or issues without necessarily resorting to medication, which tends to be what doctors try first. They can still refer you back to a doctor or psychiatrist if they think medication is what you need.

Yeah, I agree go talk to a psychologist about this. While hearing voices is a possible symptom of skizophrenia (can't spell it right offhand) it's not the sole possibility. Anxiety can cause auditory hallucinations. Sleep deprivation can also cause it (I had a friend with extreme insomnia, wouldn't let themselves sleep more than maybe a couple of hours a night for days, the things he would see and hear were scary). When going to sleep, lots of people have an auditory hallucination, usually someone calling their name, because their brain is going into a dream state. Sometimes hallucinations are just completely random, because the brain occasionally makes mistakes.

I have moderate stress levels and my periods don't seem to be returning to their normal cycle. However, I don't think the voice in my mind was created by stress; I think there is another explanation for it. I know that I am not schizophrenic, so don't assume I'm *ahem* crazy.

As far as I can work out, the dead celebrity I can hear speaking to me is Robin Gibb, whom you might know as a band member of the Bee Gees.

The brain is indeed a complex structure. If the voice situation escalates I will most likely seek treatment. For now, I can cope with it.

Good luck. I can imagine that hormones and stress could be a factor in hearing voices but hypnagogic imagery and auditory hallucinations are actually very common. I'm no expert myself so I can only recommend you make sure you seek qualified help if you think you need it.

Best thing I would recommend is to get diagnosed properly, The only time I've ever experienced anything like this is in sleep paralysis (Only happened once in my life) so I wouldn't really know anything that causes this besides what has been mentioned.

As for emotional harm it seems to be a pretty tame situation at the moment. Again, it's best to get diagnosed before taking any strategic action.

As others have said, you should probably visit the doctor just to be on the safe side. It could be caused by a wide variety of factors, but a health professional should probably be able to find the cause of what is happening.

It most likely isn't schizophrenia, so you shouldn't worry too much about it. Try and avoid self-diagnosis too, as it usually leads to even more stress, and you don't want that at all.

Particularly in your early teens, you're trying to work out who you are and who you're going to be in life. Sometimes this can be experienced as an argument in one's own head. (and the attendant headache...) If you trust Robin Gibb, it could be that your brain is trying to feed you some information in a voice that you trust. However, it wouldn't hurt to have confirmation (or denial) of this theory from a professional, and to keep an eye on what the voice is telling you. A good psychologist won't think you're stupid if you tell them, they're quite used to all kinds of confidences.

Honestly, that is a path of thinking that have lead people to fall to cancer because they were worried about such things as what other people will think.

I strongly suggest you do see a psychologist, if they have any amount of respect and integrity, they will not judge you at all.

Here's an update on what's going on regarding the "Hearing Dead Celebrity's Voice" thingybob. It is still bearable. It's not causing me any problems. It appears that I am being positively influenced by him. ( I know, right? ) As far as I'm aware, there is no danger to my mental health. I feel completely comfortable with his presence, so yes, I think I trust him. ( What the fudge am I saying? )

I'll be alright, I mean, what's the worst that can happen? :D

I must admit though, Malkin, that I do agree with what you've posted. I should get it checked out as it often dubbed "unusual" and "potentially harmful". It won't hurt getting it looked at by a professional.

I'm glad you've decided to confide in someone about Robin Gibb - hopefully he will continue to be kindly and inspiring while he stays with you. Perhaps a professional might be able to suggest strategies that would help you work towards your goals?

I find it adorable that he's guiding me through my life. I didn't think that someone would answer my call for help. It's not every day you get to say that a person rose from the dead to help you, hahaha!

I'm wondering how long this will go on for. Now that rethink it, this is something that should've happened to me ages ago! :3

It will probably go on for as long as it needs to - just don't forget to have a chat to a professional about it. ;)

I found out this morning that my reproductive system seems to have taken an odd twist. One of my ovaries isn't doing anything. This means my fertility is hit, and so I will be unable to get pregnant or even have children. Mind you, it doesn't bother me because I wasn't intending on having children in the distant future.

Here's the bit that is relevant to this forum topic. I have actually been talking to my friend ( you know who I mean ) about it. Yes, I have been discussing personal things with someone I've never even met. What am I doing? XD

I don't get why I find it so easy to talk to him. It's almost as if he's a father figure to me, since I grew up never knowing who my father was. That might be another legit reason for his offer of help. He doesn't want me to feel lonely. He doesn't want me to be left without a loving, caring family. I think that makes sense, but still, the doctor stupidly disagreed with me.

I'd suggest going to a therapist, rather than a medical doctor. A medical doctor's just there to fix you up with diet or medicine.
