Yesterday I learned that the weird, giddy feeling I felt is called happiness, and I'm actually supposed to feel like that and it's bad that I haven't been.

Today I learned that Nvidia graphics cards run a service (Nvstreamsvc) that, by default, can write to log files 200-300 times per second. (So that's what was trashing performance on my pc!)

I also learned how to turn on print logging in Windows 7, then felt bad because I should've known that.... [nblush]

TIL Starbucks's iced coffee is terrible. I feel bad because my friend bought it for me...

As for something cooler, H. R. Giger was secretly a marine biologist. No, not really, but anyway, black dragonfish. They exist.

Today I learned that running doesn't have that much of an effect on varicose veins, and a lot of specialists think the benefits of running - on health generally and circulation in particular - outweigh the risks of vein complications. So I'm going to have another look at the C25k website and maybe look into running again...

Today I learned what's been making the horrible smell in our garden - a plant called creeping phlox. Personally, I think it smells more like a cross between cat pee, beer and sweaty armpits! [nlaugh]

They really do - they're several metres from the house, but if the sun's on them we can't have the windows or back door open or it stinks the house out!

Today I learned that "spanish rice" is cooked with tomatoes!

I learned that spiders also shed their teeth when they molt - Octavia finally dragged what was left of her old skin out of her burrow and is walking around her terrarium again.

I learned that cooling fans for CPUs are easy to get, but when it is for your graphics card, you run through a bunch shops, just to be told to "try it online I guess". :\

Spiders have teeth?! :o

Today I learned that SQL2012 will run a SQL2008 database without conversion.

Oh, and that spiders have teeth. :)

Today I learned that guinea pigs like the smell of chewing gum.

I held my strip of chewing gum for fun in front of the piggy, expecting that it probably dislikes the smell. It sniffed a few times, bit into it and tried to run off with it! XD
Luckily I could take it away from him before he eats anything. I doubt that it'd be healthy for him.

I learned that my spider, Octavia, prefers Autumn weather over Summer weather. I hardly saw her at all last season but now that the temperatures are a bit lower, she's walking around again.

I learned that spiders are needy. :P

Rather than rest, like I'm supposed to, I decided to clean up the mealworm tub and when I walked by, I noticed Octi's burrow caved in and her roof had a gaping hole. Certainly explains why she's been so restless lately - she was looking for a new house!

Being a good spider-Mommy, I put on a glove and dug her a new one. ;)

Update, because I know you all wanted one:
She's happy in her newly dug burrow. :)

TIL that admitting you don't believe in God to an 8 year old is a very effective way of letting everyone else know it, too. She screwed up her face like a lemon. May need to do damage control in some way or another - demonstrate that my lack of faith does not mean that I'm a horrible person.

TIL exactly what a rat crawling in your houseroom wall sounds like. :\ My guess this will be fixed when I get back from Thanksgiving since they don't repair anything here. We've got a shower that's been broken since we got here two months ago, and the most any of the staff here has done is send people to go into the shower room, look at it, say "yup that's broken", and leave. We had ants and they had no ant traps or really anything set up for this so my SO had to go and buy ant traps. So I can't imagine the complications they'll have to go through to get a rat out of a wall.

Do not upset the ugly worm, lest it be a dragon in disguise. (>oo)>

Time to revive this thread again! Well, today I learned that when UV unwrapping 3D models with multiple materials you can give each area of the model that uses its own unique material a seperate UV space than the other materials, meaning you don't have to worry about the resolution of your textures too much.

That probably makes no sense to anyone who doesn't do 3D modelling, but meh. :P

Ah yes. Funnily enough it was the lizard-hipped dinosaurs that birds are descended from.

Not sure if this counts, but about a month ago I learned that when shopping at the supermarket it's a good idea to browse the lower shelves first, as they usually contain cheaper items, whereas the eye-level shelves often have a higher price. Also, buying fruit and veg loose works out cheaper than buying it in packs.
