Hey y'all, been a minute. So I'm finally trying to get C2 to run again, using the GoG version and DXWnd, (after trying for about six hours to get it to run on various VMs emulating XP with no luck,) and honestly, I can't get it to even launch from DXWnd. Am I doing something wrong? I have everything set like it says on the wiki page for Windows 10.
EDIT: Oh man, I should change my signature. I didn't realize it'd been THAT long.
EDIT 2: Ok so I got it to launch but I'm still getting "An error was detected during startup. Creatures 2 may not function correctly. Please restart your machine and try again." If anyone has any experience making that not happen anymore, it'd be appreciated.

Works fine on Win 7 with the patches. I'd try that in the VM. No DXWnd necessary. |

I have my virtual Windows 7 updated to 4/2016 patches, but I'm still getting the same error. Are there patches for the GoG version I'm not aware of? I'm about at the point of just sourcing an old laptop to install XP on it, since it seems like my least frustrating option.
I guess I also might have the CD somewhere from long, long ago, but I don't know how that'd help.

It's been a while since I reinstalled, but from what I recall, Albian Years comes with all the official updates already applied and all you need to do is install the Remastered patch.
Also might need to install the updated injector.
Then you launch it via launcher.exe in XP Compatibility mode, not creatures2.exe.
If it tells you it can't find registry info, you need to reinstall. Preferably install it outside of Program Files because Windows can be iffy with that. Install it to something like C:\Creatures2 should be fine.
(Some people recommend installing it to My Documents, but I've seen numerous reports of the uninstaller wiping your entire My Documents folder, so I would strongly advise against this) |

Nah, no dice, still the same error. Thanks for the suggestions anyway though!
I think I have a few friends who want to not have ten-year-old laptops collecting dust, so I should be able to just install XP or 7 on one of those.
