then it usually hangs on a black screen and i have to kill it with task manager to get it to stop
arnout had a similar problem in 2008, but i asked him and he told me he doesn't remember finding any way to fix it. apparently someone else had this problem and posted it on the GOG forums, but they didn't get any answers either.
apparently it's a windows 10 issue, so... has anyone gotten CV to work on windows 10? did you have to do anything to get it to work?
(side note: there's a folder in the CV directory named "Resource Files" and it has absolutely nothing in it. is there SUPPOSED to be something in there?) |

Using any compatibility options? |

Interesting...
- Did you have it running OK at any point in the recent past?
- Are you running as administrator? (shift right-click on the engine or shortcut should offer this option. I believe this is also one of the compatibility options, so stop me if this is a repeat.)
- Tried reinstalling?
- Is this the GOG or retail version?
- I understand CV to be a combo of CA + CP, the way C3/DS is; is there more than one engine/game folder? Have you tried the other, if so? |

1. no, never played the game before
2. already tried that along with the compatibility mode things
3. yes
4. GOG version
5. there's only one folder/engine |

That is really curious. I don't have CV, so I can't test this one myself, but maybe that info will prove to be useful in the future...
Does anyone else here have CV successfully running on Windows 10? |

I can have a go, it's on sale anyway
Edit: it worked straight out of the box, the installer already wanted to install into Documents and I let it. then it launched from the desktop icon with no errors. |

hmmm, i think the default location might've been in my documents, but i changed it so it would be in my creatures folder
guess i gotta reinstall it AGAIN... i'll tell you if it works! |

yeah, it STILL doesn't work. i'm wondering if maybe there's some other factor it needs to work, since if the problem was encountered in 2008 then it's not strictly a windows 10 problem
EDIT FOR PROSPERITY: i "fixed" the problem by running it on a 32-bit Windows XP virtual machine... i couldn't find any other way around this, so i guess that even the GOG release just doesn't work on newer computers. D: |
