What does Norn/Ettin/Grendel Home mean?

In C3/DS, some of the options on the speech computer are 'Norn home', 'Ettin home' and 'Grendel home'. But what do these mean? If you say them to the respective creature, will they go 'home'?

i'd like to tag onto your question since i've been wondering similar, are there any general guides to communicating with c3 creatures? i'm used to c2 but it's so different, and useless talking to them with the wrong sentences!
i believe you can tell creatures to approach x-home, and that they get homesick and get a desire to approach home when they are going to lay an egg.

They actually exist as physical object classes in the game. You can literally make an object and call it "grendel home" for interaction purposes.
I am not sure though if they are actually approached when creatures feel homesick or if they completely orient themselves via smell.
Smell would make more sense actually due to the much higher range and not being limited to line of sight.

So basically heres the best summary i can say.
Norn home is the Norn meso you first encounter
Grendel home is the Grendel meso where grendels hatch
Ettin home is the Ettin Desert where ettins hatch
On occasion, some norns/grendels/ettins will say "name ettinhome/nornhome/grendelhome lonely"
Although this can be fixed. All the "smells" are just stimuli from being in their homes and then leaving their homes for a while.

I hope that helps! [nsmile]

It's more like they are invisible scent emitting agents, you can tell exactly where the agents are by where pregnant Creatures will go in order to lay their eggs. For example there are two "homes" in the Norn Terrarium; in front of the learning room and at the top of the tree house. They also tend to go there when in need of comfort, not when lonely, and will say they are "homesick" when comfort drive is high.

Isn't the Norn Terrarium also a bit weak on the Norn Home front? I thought I remembered reading the Norn Home in the Meso is a lot stronger than in the C3 rooms.

ooh, never noticed the second norn home though now you mentioned it I know exactly where you mean.

Aside from laying eggs, and ettins' hoarding instinct, do they get homesick just by being away from home smell? I've never noticed. And do grendels seek out home too when laying eggs? I've never bred grendels much in the Ark.

Creatures with high Comfort drives (which is more *need for comfort*) will seek out their home smell.

IIRC this is true for norns, grendels and ettins who will seek home when pregnant. I believe they also have an instinct to carry eggs when they need comfort and drop eggs when near their home. I think the magma norns treat ettin home smell as theirs, which should attract them to the desert if they follow their instincts.

I could very easily be misremembering that as it's been a while since I've opened up the genetics kit and it might also be from a 3rd-party breed like CFF or EVO because I tend to use those over the stock ones.

Also there's always the factor of "how they're supposed to work" vs "how they actually manage to function." Can't say I've personally ever had my Magmas abandon the Norn Terrarium to go seek out Ettin Home in the Desert.

A lot of the third party breeds interact with the home scents differently. Abyss Dragons for instance get their comfort from being around other Dragons, not from a specific location.

Oh yes, in theory any of the smell automata could qualify as home smell. You could make fatty norns for example that seek out the smell of greasy food.

Oh that's fascinating, especially as norns do rather reliably lay eggs at norn home. You could make a species lay eggs near food and such.
