How to determine what 'breed' a Norn is?

Have only been playing Creatures Exodus for a day -- have multiple 'Bengal' type Norns wandering around, and out of the blue an egg laid by the female Bengal Norn created a purple baby Norn...cannot find anything in the screens I currently know how to activate which will tell me what kind of Norn I've created, or how I created it from Bengal Norn parents?

Someone point me to a portion of the manuals/guides, etc. that will assist me? I click on the name bar (on the icon upper left corner) that has the Norn's name and in the window that opens I find one that shows 'genetic information' and one listing titled 'Moniker' -- but it seems to be random letters/numbers that I do not know how to interpret.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

NOTE: Playing 'Creatures Exodus', from GOG site, with the two ships 'docked' together, and have not downloaded any mods or extras, if any of that has any bearing.

2nd Edit: In hindsight, I cannot say with utmost certainty that I did not create the Egg from the machine (have started over several times, and pushed a lot of buttons as I'm trying things out)...but I'd still like to learn how to determine what type of creature I have -- when I see a Norn walking around and I click on it, how do I determine what it is?

To determine parent-ality, you can check the Creature History events page for your little purple monster. On there, you should see the date your baby hatched, a cracked egg, and a female and male symbol: if you click these symbols you are taken to the parents' Creature History, which can be helpful in determining who the parents of any given creature is! If you see no parent symbols, then your little purple monster is a first generation creature, which may have been accidentally hatched. Creatures like to play with eggs, so if an egg was accidentally laid, then it may have been hatched by a creature without your involvement. :)

Afterthought: The best way to visually diagnose what kinds of breeds your creatures are is by using an illustrated breed list.

Children's genetics can deviate significantly from those of their parents. It's possible you have a mutant on your hands. If it's generation 2 or higher, it probably mutated.

If the sprites are purple you may have accidentally hatched a ChiChi, if it's a purple tinted Bengal then it's a mutation :P

Creatures cease to really have "breeds" once they are a few generations along as their genetics can mutate in so many different ways, you can of course say what breed their ancestors started as and use that to describe them though!

Thank you everyone for replies and information.

Started browsing through the Wiki, and many hours later after reading through pages re: Genomes, Sprites, a Sprite Builder, a Genetics Kit, etc., my head's spinning. Not 'just a cute kid's game' as it initially looked when I discovered it on GOG... [nscared]
"Lot to learn" doesn't even come close.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Could also be an Astro, if you have mall breeds (technically not third-party). Their females are purple.

If it's firstgen sometimes the info panel with their name and description and photos etc will list what .gen file created them, and a lot of times those are named pretty obviously (norn.chichi.gen or whatever). If it's not a firstgen, you generally have to eyeball it or open up their genetics in one of the gene editors and check what breedslots their appearance genes are. Even then, with higher generations it's easy to get a creature that looks like one breed but whose genes are almost entirely another, or even a norn that looks exactly like a grendel or ettin but "under the hood" is all norn.

It's worth noting that most of the breeds listed above are 3rd party, the only official breeds that are purple are Chichis and female Astro Norns, though Astros do not come prepackaged with the Exodus version of C3/DS.
