Is there a gene somewhere that specifically makes them repeatedly list who they like/dislike, especially in response to someone else saying they like/dislike someone?

It used to be a really cute thing to have creatures voices on, but creatures 3 norns just stand around blabbing about how they "like em" all day, so I end up turning off voices. I'm just wondering if there's a way to make them shut up about who they like/dislike?

I know that there IS such a gene, because I know that....I want to say, the CFFs? the 2017s? have had that gene mucked about with to make them less likely to get into "like" loops, but we'll have to wait for someone who's more familiar with them to specify what gene.

There's nothing in the genome that specifically triggers a creature to state who they like/dislike. What the CFF do is silence three genes: an instinct that suggests a creature state what they need, the stimulus resulting from stating what the creature needs, and a third stimulus that triggers from hearing another creature speak.

There's a norn who has these edits you can try out to see if he's any less prone to the loops than unedited norns are.

Alternatively, I believe there might be a .cos file fix or two floating around that makes it less likely for them to get into a like loop, or possibly cut it off altogether. Unfortunately, I don't have a link on me as I don't remember where I've seen such a thing.

I am currently using the 2017 Norns/Ettins because they don't eat you out of house or home (or in the case of C1toDS foods, don't sit there eating stuff all day) but they still get into these loops when there's like 5 in one area.

A .cos file... It's a shame google is really, REALLY unreliable for things like this. Maybe someone who knows where it is will see this topic and comment.

This would be the script in question.

Sadly even with this altered file AND the changes to the speech genes made in the CFF genome and its derivatives, Creatures with CFE+ brain types will still get into these loops. You may need to open the file in notepad and up the numbers a bit to get them to stop.

Take the scripts mentioned from the previous post, open in a text editor, search for "like from", then up each of the loops found to be 1 in 1000 instead of 1 in 100. That seems to reduce the like/dislike loops a bit. See if that helps.

Even completely eradicating the possibility (instead of lowering the chance in the loops) of spontaneously getting into a like/dislike loop in the .cos files doesn't entirely fix it. Once they start, it's hard to make them stop.

I disable the speech soul facility so they can't talk anymore if that happens. Such evil.

This makes me think that it's the C3/DS engine at fault, and that nothing can be done about it without completely removing their voice boxes. lol

Looking into the Creature scripts in the bootstrap folders of C3/DS, there seem to be no traces of scripts that impact Creatures reacting to each others' statements. I fear that stuff like this is hard-coded to the engine, so there's no other way to fix this besides disabling Creature speech. :/

How exactly DOES one disable creature speech, anyway?
