Hey guys, I realize its probably due to my population exploding, but the game's frame rate has slowed to such a crawl that I can barely handle even playing. Is there any way to fix this, short of waiting for enough creatures to die or just starting a new world? I know people do wolfling runs with hundreds of generations, and I don't want to lose some of my fun bloodlines and lineages. Am I stuck with the slowdown here? |

Is it C3/Ds? You could use the mass exporter and set up a new world if the old one is unfixable sluggish to play.
How big is your population size? Do you have loads of critters running around as well? If you have more Flora and Fauna in your game than usual it can slow down the worlds a lot. Very big metarooms can slow down as well

Not sure about my population size, I'll try to find an agent to count them, but I have c12ds, Deep Abyss, and the Artemia Sea. There are a lot of critters, and I definitely have a high population, but shouldn't the game run fine in a modern computer running Windows 10? |

Mhmmm if I remember correctly, most old games have a cap of maximum ram they can use, so even if you have a modern computer, the game could be locked to e.g. 1GB or less
You sure have a huge world with huge metarooms plus the specific critters that come with them, so that could be it.

So do most people only run Deep Abyss on its own, with only smaller rooms, and c12ds also? Having a big world seemed like so much fun at first 😕 |

Are you using a DS/Docked world? If it's been running for a long time, try removing the bramboo. There's a bug that makes it so its flowers aren't deleted and can slow worlds to a crawl after a while.
If that fixes it, then make sure to download the bramboo fix so it doesn't happen again.
In general, I've found that having a lot of agents can lead to framerate issues. Take a look around the world to see if there's a noticeable issue with agent buildup; maybe there's a vendor your creatures keep pushing that's spewing food endlessly and taking up processing power or something similar.

It is indeed docked, I'm sorry I didn't mention that initially. I'll try the bramboo fix, but maybe I have too many rooms. What's the general limit for a world? I think it's sad we don't have a way to speed up the game, but it is over 20 years old 😸 |

I whipped up a quick agent that reinjects all the standard ecology of C3 and DS. If a world runs for long enough, one of these might have derped out and is taking a lot of memory. Upon reinjection, the old instances of these agents get removed which should take care of that.
You can download it below. I'll upload it somewhere decent later, for now this'll do

This is largely untested, so it might be wise to save before you try.
Edit: if you're feeling more tech-y, you could always run the magic profiler and figure out what makes your world lag.

Oddly, I recall a C3/DS agent that halved the amount of all flora and fauna, but I can't find it anywhere. As someone that plays on a monster PC - I've only ever had the game lag due to too many Creatures though. |

There's a Magic Words addon that halves the population of flora and fauna, if I recall correctly.

I'll try that, hopefully that does the trick. Honestly, how do most of you guys play? Is the Banshee Ark incompatible with C12ds due to the limits of the game? What do you normally do when your population explodes? Import babies to a new world? The issue is definitely my population, but I'm not sure if the metarooms are also a factor. I only added more when my population exploded, but I'm not sure if the slowdown happened after it reached a certain threshold, or when I dropped a bunch of rooms into my world with the intention of supporting them and giving them a variety of places to live and thrive. |
