Hello everyone, Long time creatures fan here but it's been a while since I've played, and I've only recently gotten back into it. My question is in regards to creatures 3. In part one you could teach the norns new words and associate them with objects and actions. But in part 3 I find there is a limited set words that they can learn and I seem unable to teach them anything new. For example calling cheese, cheese rather than just food. Am I missing something? |

Hi, cylius! Welcome to the forums.  Off the top of my head, I think you'll find Amaikokonut's Magic Words Hand Teaching tool useful (there are other agents as well, but I can't think of them). Also, if you dock Creatures 3 with Docking Station, you can get your creatures to activate the Holistic Learning Machine in the Norn Meso. That will teach the all of the vocabulary automatically. It's worth noting that Norns don't think of food as having specific names; i.e. cheese, carrot, honey. To them, it just all comes under the umbrella of "food". Same goes for toy, detritus, plant, etc. I think it's less confusing for them, lol.  There's a list of the vocabulary they can learn here. |

Hi, Laura Thank you I will definitely give those options a try. It's good to get back into the game as it has been many years since I've even thought about creatures. |

Norns cannot learn individual food names, like Laura said. Certain 'meals' fall under the food catagory. Norns learn categories that generally include similar things (nutrient wise). If a norn is hungry for starch, tell them to eat a seed. They will eat any 'meal' classified as a seed, because they have learned that seed items are high in starch. Same works for the 'fruit' and 'food' category. If you hit f1 on your keyboard, you go into teach mode. Clicking on things will make the hand say the word for the thing and norns will hear and try to say it. The words the hand says is the category word norns learn for any object in the game. |
