Garden Box issues [SOLVED]

  7/11/2016

Hi.

Decided to try out the Garden Box but it won't let me place any box for patch plants. First time I use it, I pick out a patch plant and then click the crosshair in the middle, and then get the icon on the hand, then I go find a good spot to place the box. But once I have found a spot and make a box, it just disappears, nothing else. After that, each time I pick a patch plant and then click on the crosshair, all I get is a "Agent injected" and then nothing at all. Even if I pick another patch plant it still won't let me make a box. I can place plants just fine, just not patch plants. I tried reinjected the Garden Box and I got the icon etc on the hand, but again, the box disappears if I try to place it and then afterwards nothing. Restarted didn't work either.

Any help?

Do you have Magic Words Core installed?
You need that to configure patch plants.

Also, you don't need to click on the crosshairs. The crosshairs just show where an agent will appear when it injects if it's not a patch plant. I don't ever click the crosshairs and I use patch plants all the time.

Downloaded it, started a new world. Same thing, nothing changes. Beside I read the Magic word thing just adds auras, can't see how they effect patch plants, but nonetheless I tried it and same thing happens.

Well the patch plant thing will only appear if I click on the crosshair before it disappears and gets stuck like that.

I fixed the issue.
Turns out that the GoG version doesn't know how to unpack files correctly, so the catalogue files ended up in the wrong folder. Once I had Jagent open up the agent so I could get the files and place them correctly, the Garden Box worked.

Magic Words does a lot more than add auras - that's only one of its possible functions. I use the movable and clone commands SO MUCH, and the map editor stuff. Glad you fixed it!

Mind telling me exactly what it can do or link me to a site that has all its function up? I visited the originally page, but it only shows the auras.

type "help", not into the CAOS command but as if you were talking to a creature, it will list all the commands it can do.
There are also modules to add additional commands, I personally use this one quite a lot.

You have to download Magic Words Core first before the other stuff will work, first of all. It sounds like you somehow got to Magic Words Auras. This is the link to the core agent:

http://creaturescaves.com/downloads.php?section=COBs&view=1463

Once you have that, then you download additional Magic Words agents, whichever ones do things you find useful or appealing. Magic Words Cloning, Room Edits, and Kill Half are the ones I personally make use of, but there are others. Cloning contains 'movable' and 'clone'. 'Movable' makes normally stationary things movable, like for example if you're using the Fire Ants agent you can make their nests movable. Clone, meanwhile, makes a clone of anything movable. It can clone stuff that's normally movable, and if you make stationary stuff movable with the first command you can then clone it. I use this to customize metarooms by stealing stuff from other rooms or moving agents that normally appear in specific places and cannot be moved, such as the Fire Ant nests and the Grapes. I also use Clone to quickly make stocks of critters and bugs to populate new rooms for my dragons to eat. You can even Clone individual creatures - the clone is considered another offspring of the parents and so even has the same generation as the original!

Kill Half allows you to kill hots half of the instances of a given instant in the world using its classifier number. For example, if I use the Zander Fish agent and their population gets out of control and begins to lag my game too much, I can use Kill Half to whittle them down without having to uninject the entire agent to get rid of them.

Room Edits is a very powerful tool that lets you see and tweak all kinds of information about rooms and metarooms.

Oh wow, quite some features there. Have you expired any lag or slowness?

I noticed the Magic Word Core doesn't work with the Garden Box. I type "Patch Options" and I do get the outline of a white box, that then turns green if I hover over it, but nothing happens if I click it.

I also noticed that the GB can't remove strawberries, but it can remove the other Patch Plants.

Huh, that's odd. Which Windows are you using? 'patch options' stopped working for me when I went to Windows 10, sadly, but the rest of it works.

I get lag from running the game in general with too many creatures or agents in it, but I'm using a pretty weak machine right now by gaming standards so that's hardly surprising. I haven't noticed any especial lag from the use of clone so long as I don't go crazy with it. Movable usually doesn't cause lag, but occasionally when I make something movable as a prelude to cloning it, the clones begin to float away. If I don't catch them they float 'offscreen' somewhere and invisibly take up space. If that were to happen too many times it would definitely cause some lag, but no more than just having lots of instances of that agent in the world.

Some of the Room Edits tools will cause lag while they're working/calculating, but it's usually temporary. I have noticed a slight slowdown when CA links have been made visible, but I suspect on a better computer it would not be noticeable.

Win 10, so I guess that's it then XD

Do you use the strawberries?

Windows 10 did some wonky stuff to the games when I switched. For example I didn't have Black Box of Doom on C2 before but I do now. Weirdly, DS has actually run more efficiently in general, so I can deal with the loss of patch options. XD The BBoD is more annoying, but I've learned to deal by getting rid of it with CTL-ALT-DEL --> Task Manager. It can be a pain not being able to see the Hand but I'm learning to manage.

I do sometimes, but I've never tried to remove them. The strawberries probably have a typo or something in their remove script, I'd imagine, if you're only having trouble with that one patch plant.

I managed to get rid of the BBoD after about an hour -.- But my biggest issue with it was that for some reason the game runs very slow. Picking up items almost takes like 2-3 seconds while everything ran fine.

Only those, so I think you are right with the typo thing. I think I'll just remove them lol.

Resurrecting this old thread for same issue Zaf had.

I've got GOG Creatures Exodus (Windows 10) and trying to use Garden Box. I've injected Magic Words Core and the Garden Box. I've got into Program Files (x86)/GOG Galaxy/Games/Creatures Exodus/Docking Station/Catalogue and I copied everything there. Then I went to /Documents/Creatures/Creatures/Docking Station/Catalogue/ and pasted.

Still all I'm able to do is inject the Garden Box, pick a spot, select an item from the GB menu, touch the crosshair so that the icon appears, drag to make a dotted-line patch, and then when I click again it disappears and nothing else happens. I can't even get another icon to reappear.

Has anyone ever gotten this to work?

It's actually the other way round - if the game is installed on your C drive or whatever, you need to copy the files from your My Documents to your C drive.

Of course people have gotten it to work. People use it all the time. Garden Box is a very popular agent. There wouldn't be so many patch plants and such for it if it didn't work.

What's happening is, as C-Rex said, you did the file copy backwards. So Garden Box can't find the files it needs and is autokilling. That's all. Move the files where they belong and it should be fine. :)

Tell the truth, raising Norns underwater would be a lot harder without the GB. I rely -so much- on Grendel Man's version of Aquamites, and his updates to the Gumin Grass and the sponges, to keep my Shrimptons going.
