Is moving metarooms possible?

Hi, I've been using this site for years, I've been playing and loving the game on and off for years, and I love the work people do and hope it continues on so much! But I just signed up and I'm hoping someones around because I want to ask if its possible to move metarooms people have made to other locations on the map?

I really wish there was some way of actually seeing the map, I've searched all over but it always leads back to the map editor link which is always not working. >.> I'm really tempted to go into the files and adjust the numbers myself, but I know I would mess it up so badly... I believe I'd have to not only move the background, but anything in it which include doors, objects, and overlays right? And its the huge ones like C1 in DS, ainarda, C2 in DS, and chione I'd want to move into clear areas.... o.o' I think some only overlap by a relatively tiny bit... Lol

I have a top gaming laptop that could probably handle whatever creatures can throw at it, so I really want to live the dream and have as much of all the games in one I can! I love vast endless worlds I can create, thats always been my favourite part. ^_^ And I have so much nostalgia for creatures... But... I'm horrible at coding, I work graphically as a game designer, (got a masters degree in game design and a deep love of biology, so this game is cat nip to me lol!) not with numbers... which sucks but I cant help it.

Anyway, thats basically it, I desperately want some way, any way of moving the metarooms on the map... if anyone could send over the map editor so I could take a hack at it I'd be grateful!I might be able to manage the numbers if I have the squares visually in front of me, its imagining and plotting all those locations, and how far 2000 pixels is left of the left value that hurts my head. >.<' I'll try anything though....

Yes, you'd have to move all of the objects as well. But an easy way to do that would be figuring out how many pixels on the Y and X axis you moved the metaroom, and just apply those numbers to all of the objects' positions as well. That way, you're not struggling to find the absolute value of every single object individually.

The room editor (for C2) can be found here: Download

The map editor (for C3/DS) can be found here: Download

I've never used fan-made metarooms myself before, so I'm not exactly sure how they get injected. If they rely on COBs, then you'll also need something like BobCob to edit the metaroom's injection scripts to change the positions of all the objects/doors/etc.

I had a tough time finding a version of BobCob that worked on Windows 7, but did eventually find this version which does not need installing.

Thanks so much!! I've been looking for those for ages. o.o Maybe I can mess around and make my own later, if I ever sort out the problems with ones people have made lol. I finally managed to map out most of the current meta rooms, and I interestingly found out not many of them overlap, which means my problem isnt a lack of map space. :( I kept getting something about Script1 not being able to set a room type... And it only lets me make a certain amount of metarooms, its weird... is there a limit on meta rooms? Or available meta room space? Also whats brmi, something to do with map index? I saw that at the top of the map.cos and its been bugging me... its like somethings limiting me and I dont know what. >.< By the end of it I kept getting a running script error every time I exited a world, and it just shut the entire thing down without saving... Even with a DS that was barely changed... I'll try a clean wipe and laptop restart later and see what happens, unless anyone knows whats going on. >.>

Nice to see you here, Lunasif! Would you be able to capture the exact error messages you're seeing? Many technical players often have helpful solutions for specific types of errors. I'm not exactly in that boat, but hopefully you'll be able to figure it out! I've found that some of the larger metarooms fulfill the need to great huge worlds, although I see your point about wanting to have everything all at once!

By the way, are you running the GOG.com versions of Creatures with the Remastered Patch installed?

Good luck with everything: I hope you can figure out how to play like you want to very soon!

Lady? What you need is the Categorical CAOS Documentation. You can get the alphabetic one as well, but I personally find it kinda useless due to (obviously) not having any categories. Using your browser's search function inside the categorical doc is much easier to use than using the alphabetic one.

The commands in the resources article I linked will create HTML files within the Journal folder of your game. You can open them with a browser of your choice, like Firefox, Chrome, whatever Mac OS offers or IE.

In the doc you will find pretty much all the commands the game knows, together with data types they return, arguments they take and descriptions of what they do.

To rip apart agents and then glue them back together after being done with them, I can recommend Jagent. You will need Java for it, but many people have it anyways. Also, make sure that you start Edos (spritebuilder) or Monk (agent compiler/decompiler) when you need them. the jagent.jar is just some core file and will throw errors when you try to start it.

EDIT: Jessica ninja'd me. In case you don't mind the typos, here is another article which explains how to maximize the effectivity of error solving ;)

You guys are awesome, thanks for trying to help. ^_^ I'm probably being way too ambitious, but if theres a way to make this work I'd be so happy. I've always wanted to be a dimension jumper lol, I'd at least like my norns to enjoy something similar in a nearly endless world. :P

Lady? :o Ooo thats interesting... and awesome, now I can find out what everything means, thanks! ^_^' Oh, I really should have mentioned that stuff, sorry! I did get it off GOG.com, its creatures Exodus, and I have the remastered patch too.

Click

A picture is worth a thousand words right? So I screenshotted the stuff, Thats about the maximum amount of rooms I can get in, a few of those like Chione are huge, but I did increase the map by about ten times... Though since I mapped the rooms out in the map editor based off the location in their files I dont think thats the problem. :( I sometimes only manage to inject about half the amount of metarooms, the largest amount of rooms I've managed in the image is after a clean install into My Documents folder. The catalogue tester agent said it wasnt unpacking catalogues and on the catalogue post said it worked better in My Documents, but it still says the catalogues arent working (even without any metaworlds or any other agent, besides the DS offline one...) so I dont know if its supposed to work with Exodus or outdated somehow. >.>

I've not put anything in except a ton of metarooms (and magic words just in case... though for some bizarre reason without me even touching the files autoname and hi-bounce balls keep installing... >.> I'm fairly sure those didnt come with the game... did they? ) to try and test it out, (even I dont intend on using all of them lol... just most of them if I can. ;P) it doesnt seem to matter much which combination of rooms I have, I keep getting the same limit... I learnt I cant have c1 and c2 in the same world, which is a bit disappointing, but at this point I'd be happy with either. XD That runtime message is what I get whenever I try logging out of a world, and it shut the whole thing down. Though it didnt before I put all the metarooms into the game... So maybe I'll try installing things one by one and see if any set it off, though I had them all in there in my first install and it didnt do this...

I'm almost wondering if one of the metarooms is trying to run some older files from some obscure location... I had something weird with the Morpheri metaroom where it randomly used the block image I had used in the map editor to represent the room as the actual rooms background. o.o That bmp was in My Documents under several layers of folders while Exodus was on my D drive. -.-' I did do a search on My Computer, but I dont think there was any older files, (unless they have weird names...) just some old Start menu links and stuff in recent which I think I did delete just in case... I might try removing everything I can find on here to do with creatures onto my removable hardrive, and pray it doesnt stop working again lol... I'm currently just running the game in the background with the max amount of metarooms it'll let me without autokill, and nothings popping up. Nothing ever pops up to say somethings gone wrong, that tends to be more to do with agents from my experience. >.>

I ramble way too much, I'm sorry. >.<' I'm a bit of a writer, and I dont want to leave anything in this mess out... I'll keep testing stuff and edit this if I find anything interesting...

Honestly it seems like a space limit... I've just tried installing C2 in the same install that let me have all those metarooms in the picture, but with C2 its only let me have two large metarooms and nothing else at all...

Well, it seems the runtime error only happens when I hit that metaroom room type error... I do recall something somewhere saying something about a runtime error when you have too many metarooms... but what the heck says when you have too many? :(
(Also sorry about page stretching and paragraphs, I thought the image might be simpler to just look at. XD And I'm kind of recording what I'm doing here... if I'm doing anything wrong just slap me and I'll stop it. :P)

A library throwing a runtime error. Great. That can mean just about anything >.<
My first guess would be that it simply injects too many rooms. By rooms I mean the little cells metarooms are divided into. You should be able to see them in the map editor or with the dmap command. I can not tell for sure, but I'd imagine that you were never supposed that many and it just runs out of index numbers or something like that...

Alternatively, it might be a problem with the way fav places icons (the blue thingies on top of the screen) work. The best way to test this probably would be throwing a couple dozen custon fav places just all over the default rooms.
If you need help with that, we can guide you through the creation of your own, how you adjust the positions and classifier and how you make your own spritefiles.

Lol I know right? Agents are so much easier, they just throw up the exact problem in an error message... (usually...)

That was my first guess too, but I have no idea about the limits on those. -.-' I know I have an addon somewhere that throws up the cells, and I bet C2 has a ton of them... Is there any way of editing how many cells you're allowed? >.>

Hm... I remember there being a fav icon error a few installs ago... I havent seen it since though. >.> I'll look into that...

Lol well I managed to get this to pop up once...

Runtime error in agent 1 2 24403 script 1 2 24403 1000 unique id 5630
Failed to set room type
... 6 30932 31060 31085 {@}rtyp va00 6 rmsc 40450 31010 " ...

Its to do with the room I was trying to inject, one of the universal hub ones (Morpheri, which has misbehaved before...). But I tried removing those altogether, and it still happened/didnt work... (unless it read it from the recycle bin...) It doesnt seem to revolve around one room, I've tried various combinations of rooms and it differs each time, but always ends the same. :/ It does seem to happen with a smaller amount of rooms when I use larger rooms though. >.>

I just tried injecting each room and exiting, everything is fine until I trip that fail to set room type error... then its like game over. >.> I can exit and then try again, I can try many different rooms of various sizes, even ones I knew would fit in with the rooms already there, but after that error(usually gotten by trying to put a huge room in after putting a few in...) all of them refuse. And even if I dont close the game it randomly pops up and closes it for me sooner or later... It does seem to be large rooms that trip it, like if I have C1 and then try either Ainarda, (which seems to almost have as many cells as C1 if the lack of rooms I can install after it means anything... o.o' ) or anything else and then Ainarda it seems to trip it... I cant seem to have Ainarda, C1 and C2 in the same game... Ainarda must take up a TON of room though, I managed to get two big metarooms, (biodome and chione) and about seven small rooms in the same space, if it is a space thing... Its so annoying the big ones are the ones I like, if I could have C1, Ainarda, biodome and chione I'd be happy to miss out the small rooms. :'(

And I havent a clue about the fav icons... I have a rough idea of how they work, but it says in that tutorial I cant create multiple fav places in a single metaroom? And to be honest if I cant cut and paste the coding in I'm not sure I'd be confident to try it. >.<' I did try a random agent that organized the icons and got rid of their image, but it didnt really help lol... though if it was the icons wouldnt it say in an error message? :o

Um, also the map editor cant import from the game, its saying, 'cannot execute "outv mapw outs" "outv maph", so unless I'm missing something, which is highly likely lol, I'm guessing its not compatible for some reason. The only way I got a map of the docking station to work off was by downloading it... And dmap doesnt seem to be working either?

Also I forgot to mention earlier, I'm on windows 7 if theres any known problems there... All I want is some sort of megaworld darn it! XD Its a shame I cant link up worlds... I'm sorry to cause trouble over something thats probably actually built into the game, I just thought there might be a way around it, and I really wanted there to be a way around it. >.<'

You must pass an argument to dmap. dmap 1 to turn it on, dmap 0 to turn it off. Use the CAOS console for that (ctrl + shift + C). Don't forget to close it again after usage. It behaves.... funny when you exit the game with it still open.

I still think it has to do with the number of rooms (the green cells you will see after dmap 1) which you have in your world.
