Cannot make docked world in DS | |

I'm running the GoG.com/Exodus version of C3DS and have installed it to My Documents. Unfortunately it seems DS cannot recognize that C3 is installed now. Any way I can get this fixed?

Look for a file called 'machine.cfg' in the DS program folder. Open it in a text editor.. There should be several fields like "Auxiliary 1 Backgrounds Directory" with paths in there pointing to the corresponding spots in the Creatures 3 install folder.
Make sure those paths are pointing to the correct place in your documents (make sure you put double backslashes in the path though... backslash is normally an escape for special characters... You have to put a double backslash to represent an actual backslash). There should also be a field called "Win32 Auxiliary Game Name 1" in that file... if not, put it there and make sure that it says "Creatures 3".
If changing the configuration file doesn't help, then there are also problems in your registry, which will be a pain to fix... You should be able to go into regedit, search for every instance of the path to your old C3 game folder in any keys, and then fix all of these paths to point at the proper place in your new C3 install. Restart your machine to put the registry changes into effect, and then you should be set.

oh man, fixing registry keys is a pain, I still haven't fully gotten the c3/ds map editor working for that reason myself.
An alternate option (that may well not work but comes to mind) is that there's a metaroom mod that injects the c3 world into your undocked games if I recall? lemme dig around
ah yeah, here it is!
It does say that you need c3 installed, but who knows? it might be able to find file paths and the like that docking can't, or alternatively you might have to move less files around and avoid messing with registry keys.

Fixed the registry, deleted all the old keys, renamed things, nothing's working. The machine file keeps going back to how it was before when I try to edit it--for some reason instead of pointing to C3 though it's pointing to DS itself, which is a reacharound I'm not liking.
I'll try and see if that works, Jesseth. This is such a pain in the rear though qq

Problem is the version of Exodus I have is the GoG version :C So it's even more irritating, because this should be working, but it isn't...

New problem, I tried to run C3 standalone and I'm getting this error:
What the heck?!
EDIT: All is well. I have fixed the problem. Hopefully nobody ever has to go through what I went through getting this to work! Install C3DS in My Documents first, everyone!

Glad to hear it. Yeah, same exact thing happened to my install when I thought I could just move it... It works fine now, after I spent frustrating hours figuring out how to fix it, but it taught me a lesson about making sure to always install to the right place first, especially in the case of these versions of Creatures.

Uuuunfortunately catalogue files still aren't extracting ._. Any hints on that?

you can't see a random-name-bits.catalogue file anywhere? Could it be going into your old install directory? Also, did you install the creatures remastered patch after you did everything else?

Nope :/ I'll check the old directory though. And yes, the patch was installed after everything else.
Seems like the catalogue files aren't going into the old directory, either, and the files don't exist in my catalogue folder.

Try running Docking Station as an Administrator, then try again. There could be a folder rights problem.

Tried again, no dice. I copied all my catalogue files and such to the other Creatures folder in My Documents however and it seemed to mostly work out. This might just be a temporary fix tho.
