How to install DS?

So, I've been trying to install DS (Docking Station) and quite frankly have no idea what to do. I have downloaded the file on the website for my system (windows seven) and have done to things: Downloaded it and allowed it to install the patch, and then downloaded it and refused the patch, which caused a message to pop up saying " Change resolution to high color (16 bit)" And I have the two files needed to play the game offline. What am I doing wrong? Could someone help me correct it? Thanks in advance :)

Did you try doing what the message says?

I think you're supposed to decline the patch, as the DS server is down and cannot update any more. You might have to uninstall and reinstall in order for it to work if you allowed it to install the patch. As for the message regarding 16 bit, you'll have to go into your Control Panel and adjust the screen resolution from 32 bit to 16 bit.

You'll also need the DS offline option, which you can get here.

Hope this helps!

Okay, how would I change it to 16 bit? I have really no idea how to do that. :/

Okay. You're using Windows 7, yes?

On the right hand side of your start up menu, there should be a list of things on the side. (e.g. Documents, Pictures, Music, Computer, etc.) Click on the one that says Control Panel. When the Control Panel pulls up, click on 'Adjust screen resolution', which should be under Appearance and Personalization. This will take you to another window.
On the right hand side, click on 'Advanced settings'. When the advanced settings pull up, click the tab that says 'Monitor', and at the bottom there should be a button that says 'True Color (32 bit)'. Click on this, select the option for 'High Color (16 bit), and click 'Apply'. When the message pops up asking if you'd like to keep these settings, click yes.

Does that help?

Yes, but where do I put zzz_gamestarter_login.cos? I don't see the file Bootstrap 010.

Hmm... Okay, this might not be exactly what you need, since I'm using Creatures Exodus, but hopefully it's close enough.

First click on Computer, in the start menu, just above the Control Panel. Click on the hard drive disk labelled (OS) C:, and then click Program Files (x86). The next folder you need to click on is probably labelled Creatures, or Docking Station, or something similar. When you click on that, third folder down should be labelled Bootstrap. Go into there, and click on the folder called 010 Docking Station. Put the .cos file in there, overwriting the previous.

That should do it. Let me know if you have any other issues.

There's a folder that is just called "Bootstrap." Go into that, and then put the .cos file into 010 Docking Station.

You probably have a c16 file as well, when you got the most commonly used patch. It goes into the Images folder, next to Bootstrap.

Also, I am not sure if that is an issue for you, but make sure that your desktop icon points to the "engine.exe" and not the "installblast.exe". The installblast was supposed to get newest patches, but nowdays it only makes your game hang, since the patch server is down. Directly starting the engine fixes it, though.
They are both located in the same folder.
