Strange Grendel Issue

I've got an unusual issue with the male C12DS grendels in my C3/DS world. They look like walking piles of gobbly gook.

I've done some digging to see if what the cause of this issue is but I've only seen references to this happening to male Grendels of at least the adolescent life stage. I'm having it happen to the babies too.

What's more I'm having it happen on both of my installations on both computers.

Weird. Any advice?

Hello Zarg1,

This problem is caused by incorrect body data, as mentioned here by Grendel_Man. I think there is a downloadable fix for the C1toDS grendels to fix this issue but I need to check. If not, someone in the community might be able to provide you with the correct files or you could try manually deleting and copying the correct body data files if you are confident. :)

Ok so according to the post by Grendel_Man and the breed listing on http://www.creatures.de/e-c3breedlist.htm#Grendels the C12DS grendel males are using tree hugger body data if I'm not mistaken.

So the solution is to delete the body data for the h slot, then reinstall the C12DS grendel, then copy the grendel's data to all age groups. This way, when next I inject a tree hugger into the world it won't overwrite the grendel body data.

So for deleting the existing data, to remove slot h I'd remove files like a12h.att and b14h.att correct?

One more thing I tried installing the grendel fix found here but it didn't seem to do anything.

That's correct. I don't have C1toDS installed right now (I've just upgraded my computer for Guild Wars 2 and am in the process of installing everything) but the possible files you will want to look for will be:

(a-n)10h.att
(a-n)12h.att
(a-n)14h.att
(a-n)15h.att
where "a-n" means any letter between a and n

Ok removing the files then reinstalling C12DS and its patch didn't work.

I looked into the patch change log (for the C12DS patch) and for some reason its not updating the grendel body data. (I get an error whenever I ask it to do this specifically.)

Anyone happen to know where I might happen to find a working patch or even just the corrected C12DS grendel pose files?

Have you tried using the in-game egg layer to produce a C1toDS grendel? Generally doing that unpacks all the relevant files that accompany the breed.

Alright its fixed. My attempts to fix it this morning resulted in a broken game. (As in the game would no longer start. I don't know what I did to make that happen.) Anyway so when I reinstalled it, I made sure I reinstalled Creatures 3/DS and installed the C12DS grendel before I installed the Treehuggers. That seams to have removed the issue.

To reply to your suggestion mip, I had been using the muco egg layer to produce the grendels all along.
Thanks for the help, very much appreciated.

It's a shame you had to reinstall but I'm glad you sorted it out. [nsmile]

Hi there,

I'm posting on this very old topic because I'm having the exact same issue. I'm trying to follow the solution posted by Zarg1 on his last message here, but I'm not very sure what he means by saying "installing C12DS grendels" ? When I install C12DS, everything installs at one time by itself, how can I manually install those grendels ? I want to reinstall'em with with the hope of solving my problem

They're in the Windows beta patch linked on the Creatures Wiki. You should be able to open the .exe file with Ubuntu's Archive Manager. :)

Crap, I've totally forgot that patch. I'll try it then, thanks for the help !

EDIT : what are exactly the files I must change to correct the problem ? I'm unable to install the patch directly

Try overwriting all the C1toDS body data with the body data from the patch. It's easier than picking out the Grendel-specific files, and it shouldn't break anything. (I'm not sure where the C1toDS files installed in your case, so you might have to dig around and find them.) Let me know if this works. :)

OK, no matter what files I replace, I still got this problem.

But I think it's because of my particular installation (you know, my Raspberry Pi thing)

I'll install the game on Windows, and then try to solve my problem there, by manually replacing those files.
