Garden Box Backdrop Community Project | |

There are lots of Garden Box decorations available now, but there's something missing: back-drops! I've decided to start a community project to rectify that! Can you design a background?
As for size and shape, I would like them to be either the size of a Freedom Project room (shown by the green lines), or made to fit in or in between existing Garden Box decorations
Feel free to be imaginative or general with this. You can submit anything from a plain white plaster wall, to an extremely detailed sci-fi style panel with all kinds of screens, buttons and knobs. Feel free to use any theme you want; the more variety, the merrier. You can submit Holiday-themed backdrops, but keep in mind that this won't be released before Halloween this year.
I would prefer seamless backdrops, especially for things like plain brick walls, but it's not necessary.
If you choose to submit multiple backdrops, keep one thing in mind: you can recolor Garden Box decorations in-game. If you submit a backdrop that is only a simple recolor of another one, I will turn it down. Now, for example, if you do a single-colored and multi-colored version of the same brick wall, or add some extra textures, I will accept it, because that can't be done with the garden box on its own. Examples (hastily done in MS Paint) below:
The deadline for submissions is November 27th, so the agent can be released for the CCSF. PM me, or post in this topic to submit your backdrops!

I'd love to try this If I could stop procrastinating.
I'm not sure what's meant by "between existing Garden Box decorations" though, to essentially create what ever decoration you feel like?

One of the problems with backdrops is the lack of defined spaces. Say, if you wanted to completely change the background of the Norn Meso, you'd need backdrops in just the right shape.
Garden box decorations, like the ones shown in the pic, can have defined spaces, though.
Using the quick mock-up example backdrop from before, I've made it so that it goes nicely with the roof in the image.
This is what the sprite would look like. "Fits between existing Garden Box decorations" is just a size and shape suggestion.

Lookadis.
I made a couple of wooden walls/fences (They were uploaded the same size as they would be in-game, but they appear really big here for some reason.)

I made some speakers. It's actually a working agent for Garden box buut I don't know where to put it. I know I can't attach files in PMs like I can with Emails though. |

And some decking/roofing, not sure if this is so much what you had in mind?
EDIT: Now with moar. This should make some cute wooden huts.

I'll have a go at making a brick background. Though my skill at digital art isn't that good, so I doubt it will be that pretty... XP
Edit:
As I thought on a brick wall design... Mud bricks came to mind.
I thought it would be neat if it looked as if Creatures were using natural materials such as mud and clay to build. I hope I got the muddy look right.
Also attempted at a thatch flooring that could also be used as a roof.
Water or groovy wallpaper, you decide.

Oh, man, the Virtual Villager series is such an amazing goldmine for creatures-style graphics
I suppose getting permission to upload them publicly would be impossible though.
Edit:ty Laura, I just couldn't figure out that tag |

ooh! I'd be interested in taking part!
do you have a dimension in pixels I should work by? also, does transparency matter, or should things be on black for transparent parts?

Black for transparent parts, please. The dimensions (for a Freedom Room square) are about 182 x 220

The rooms in the Freedom Room aren't exactly the same, the ones nearest the ground are slightly shorter than the rest. (there are also slightly different widths, but as far as I can tell it's very negligible)
This screenshot might help
My wooden items are the height of the taller boxes,so they overlap on the bottom rows slightly, but I thought this was a better compromise than there being a gap,I suppose I could create shorter versions as well but I don't think it'll look too jarring. |

I made a couple:
These two are just plain wall, but one has a skirting board.
This one is supposed to be a cave. |

Dirt with rocks? ("emboss" is an amazing filter to make 3d-looking textures)
Edit: new version, these go toghether. I suppose they could be one background and use that 4 buttons feature on the garden box to switch between images for some variety.
Side be side
K, this one just happened.

This gave me an idea..
Make a variety of different sized metarooms with nothing in them that you can fill in with Garden Box decorations/backdrops, that room/collision editor thing, and your own injected content.

I'm sorry about the delay on this: I got caught up in the move and the Xmas season, and then my hard drive went kaput. I'm not sure when I'll release this now, but if anyone would like to submit more in the meantime, feel free.
