There's a new kind of Norn on the block. The Evo Norns. What's so special about them? They are a result of months of work by multiple people fixing many problems with the base C3/DS creatures genomes and any genomes based on them... the CFF genome (see this thread for more details)... They are an extension of the CFE genome edits, with many more fixes and nearly 50 new genes, including a new drive regulation organ that fixes creatures tendency to starve while preoccupied with other drives, and a new brain lobe that regulates their hunger so they will not overeat.
I would love to hear any feedback or suggestions about these Norns, as I think that CFF is just about ready to roll out on all the official Norn breeds (the Evo are based on ChiChis). If anyone can think of any other fixes I can add to them or changes to make them better (keep in mind these should be generic fixes that could apply to all breeds) please let me know in reply here or in the dev thread.

Oh, this is very exciting! I'd love to breed these into my group. |

-brushes dust off genelab- I'd suggest for your consideration a change for reducing rates of reproduction, which would be to increase how much progesterone is necessary to lay. I've found I can get fairly lengthy pregnancies by increasing the threshold of progesterone needed to trigger lay egg to 250. Interestingly, I've found increasing the number of opposite sex pheromone that's necessary to increase sex drive is not effective, and for lack of creativity I've resorted to making pregnancy longer so that it increases the space between pregnancies. I also made a lot of the reproductive genes not active until adulthood, and I've increased the relative length of time creatures spend as youths. That last bit may be a bit radical for most players though. Overall the extra length of pregnancy isn't abnormal once you've played with it for awhile, and it seems more natural given there lifespans, closer to the creatures one pregnancy.
If you're gong to do that bit about making the pregnancy longer, I'd suggest also making the instinct to return home to lay dormant! I didn't at first, and so they spent their seven minute pregnancy circling the egg pan. -face palm-
So far, the Evo norns haven't eaten themselves out of house and home like most. In fact, I lost one to starvation almost immediately in the meso while I wasn't looking. The snot rocks are happier for it though!
I'm really also enjoying the lack of automated responses with the update doneto scripts in combination with the Evo norns. A youth keeps saying "love x", and other norn is just walking away to play with a toy, pretty amusing. |

I've got two hatched and the only off thing I've noticed so far is that they're scared pretty much all the time. I can't figure out what's spooking them. |

Well, babies tend to be more easily frightened than adults, but that's odd... where are you raising them? The DS meso has the bramboo, that causes a good amount of fear on any norns around all the time when it falls, other than that I can't think of much, unless they are suffocating... I haven't noticed them having unusual amounts of fear myself. They do have a tendency to reflexively retreat when hit, but it doesn't cause extra fear for them. Slaps from the hand cause fear though like normal, and saying 'no' to them has the same effect of the slap except no pain or wounding... still has the fear and punishment though.
One possibility is maybe that these norns seem to be very good at getting rid of anger through alternative means, and excess anger helps cancel out fear.

They were adults, one was in the meso so it's possible it was the bramboo but the other was in Veridia and there wasn't any bramboo around. Hm. Well, I've only tried two so far, I'll hatch another two along with my next batch of babies when I get there and see what happens. |

Chichis are a little more excitable than some other breeds too... they are noticeably a little more high-strung than say bruins or civets.
