Because I'm out of ideas for a genetic breed despite having a new and improved base genome ready for use, I decided to see what ideas the community can give me.
And to do that, I've decided to host a little contest. If you upload an interesting enough creature to either TCR or the Adoptions section, you might have that creature become a full-fledged genetic breed!
And here's how you do that (copy-pasted from my blog):
*This is for C3/DS only - no C1 or C2 submissions!
*Find an interesting creature in your worlds. Appearance and species doesn't matter much, though since I don't have an ettin genome ready quite yet ettins aren't as likely to win as norns and grendels are. That's not to say an ettin can't win, however; an ettin certainly can if it appeals to me enough.
*Upload this creature to either TCR or CCave's adoption center, along with a brief description of how you imagine the breed based on your submission to be like. Do take care to ensure that the breed's features are actually possible in-game! You're not going to win if your breed relies on eating walls (for example).
*Only one submission per user! Also, you will have to upload a completely new creature for the contest - I won't accept already uploaded creatures.
*This should be obvious since I'm basing the breed on an individual creature, but just to make sure: the result of this contest will be a genetic breed - it will not have sprites of its own! I don't have the patience to make a full breed, not to mention my art skills are pretty bad, so I will not make a full breed unless you want to make the sprites for me.
Feel free to ask questions if anything isn't clear. If not, then feel free to submit something - this contest is open until further notice. Once I come to some sort of conclusion, I'll decide on a winner and hopefully make the breed some time later.
Sound appealing? I hope so! If nothing else, the adoptions section should be a bit more interesting now.
Current submissions:
*Kirin and Quilin - Nev

I hope these count as one submission since they're a male and female equivalent. I bred these guys carefully over the course of a week recently with kirins in mind, and now they're finished this contest is the perfect push for me to upload them. I'd imagine, if possible, kirin norns would be born already having a full vocab so that they can teach words to other norns (since kirins brought mankind written language) and would have a gentle disposition, especially towards animals and plants (as kirins were said to be careful how they trod among the plants wherever they went, and never took an innocent life).

Breed concept: A creature that freely interbreeds with Grendels or Norns without any intervention, and is very tolerant.

First Trait - The genders would use different sprites. One gender would have the Boney Grendel head, arms and legs, and the Vampyre Grendel's body. The other gender would have the Neko Ettin head, the Vampyre Grendel body, the Pearl Mermaid Norn tail, and the Boney Grendel arms. Which tail sprite they use doesn't really matter to me.
Second Trait - They feed primarily on light and meat (critters or bugs). If they can't get enough light, they can get a bit of what they need from fruit, but not as much as they would get from light. They much prefer meat and bright lights to fruit (story-wise, the reason they have Boney Grendel arms is because they are better armored for hunting then).
Third Trait - They are amphibious to allow them to hunt down those tasty fish that swarm in the water.
Fourth Trait - Darkly colored to make it look like they would absorb more light?
Fifth Trait - They are Grendels rather than Norns. There are already Plant Norns, so why not a type of Plant Grendel?
I'm not sure how easy or hard it would be to do, but what if the females got less nutrition from the light when they are pregnant (story-wise it would be as if their body was channeling all the nutrition from the light, directly to the growing egg instead of the mother's body)? Because they are getting less nutrition from the light, they have to eat more meat and fruit to make up for it and to keep from starving.
I based the idea on both the Plant Norns and an alien race I once made for a friend's game.
