^In CC terms, a Naven is a person who makes up stories to get attention or is generally very annoying. The term rose from the "leaked news" of a new species of creatures in development, said to be like norns but smarter and with more fur. Of course, the news was bull, but the name stuck.

Cwiki attributes "naven" to AGC, and Steerpike wrote a poem about them. (Turn your sound on for extra atmosphere! )
Also, Grandroids got Slashdotted.

Good old Poe makes everything better. Also, naven sounds like one of those old insults for young people, like "uncouth youth". |

I've been beaten to the definition ten times over, but this is what I was thinking of, basically. I've also seen it used to refer to someone who knows almost nothing about the Creatures series (as whoever coined the term to begin with apparently did ).
*cough* ANYWAY, the total's close to 10k over the original requested amount. *_*
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

Interesting. I didn't really participate in the CC that early on, only downloaded stuff, so I missed this. Thanks for the explanations. |

Looks like we might even hit 40k by tomorrow, WOW. I'm so proud of us all for reaching the goal so quickly; now we have a new game in the works to chat and theorise about! |

Steve Grand has just posted another update; for those of you who want to help but can't pledge any money, Rimeian has offered a solution:
I've seen posts for people who really want to participate but can't afford to. I think for a game like this a community of third party developers is a great asset. So, I'd like to offer the GURU level to the first 5 people who reply to this update with the following conditions... Read the full update here. |

Haha, I just raced over here to post the same thing.
FYI, "Guru" status means you'd get a beta of the game as well as all the development tools Steve Grand can offer.

^There's always genetic work, which is fairly easy to get the hang of, and I assume Grand will need genetic workers more than agent workers.

A lot of it, at least for me, was just a matter of downloading the Genetics Kit and messing around with it. I'm still not proficient at it, but I know enough to change a norn's color or assign different breed sprites to various limbs.

Laura,
You weren't the only one. I got choked up too especially with the reference to AntiNorn. I pledged and am so thrilled Steve Grand is at it again. There has never been a game that meant as much to me as Creatures and I have so many fond memories of my experience with it. I've been waiting for something like this for so many years and I REALLY hope he can get this off the ground.
Ahahaha and OMG did anyone else crack up with the line "Small donations will get you a signed photo of Lucy, so if you want to avoid that, pledge more..."
Steve Grand is a genius. I wish him all the success in the world on this project. |

I'm not even sure how I stumbled across the article and video but I am STOKED that a new game along the lines of Creatures is in the works. I found out too late to donate money though. This has sparked my interest in playing Creatures all over again! I've got C2, DS, and C3 all back on the computer and have been going to all the sties that are still active downloading COBs. It really brings me back to the days when the Creatures community was aglow with activity. Let's keep this alive and well! |

You can still donate until April 8th! Steve only asked for the bare minimum, so every donation is still helpful. |

Coming back to CC after a while was totally worth it!
I wish I had some money to spare to help the project out.

That information was added by one of our members, but I don't see a reference anywhere? Where did this information come from?
I checked the Grandroids page, but no mention of Lisa anywhere.

The page first said Lisa was producing an unannounced title, then someone (I know who it is) changed it to Grandroids.
Lisa's website and blog don't mention anything of the kind. She did produce a game called Creebies a while ago, though. Currently she's working for oosocial, which has nothing to do with Grandroids.

The way Steve Grand talks about the project make it seem like it wouldn't need a producer at this point... which calls the information further into suspect.
That aside, if she were on the team, it wouldn't surprise me, and I would be happy to hear it. |

Considering Steve made a post on his blog only a couple of days ago about why he is working on this completely alone, I think it's pretty safe to say this information is untrue. |

I had a chat with the person who edited the page and they pretty much admitted they edited it while half asleep and can't even remember doing it, so...
Someone should revert it.

FWIW, Kickstarter apparently had a major hiccup last night/this morning and as a result, all current projects' deadlines have been extended by 24 hours. I don't know if this'll affect when the beta for Grandroids opens, though, as last I heard Steve was planning on opening his forums/site soon after the deadline passed.

He needs to get the e-mail addresses of the backers to give them access to his site, and he doesn't get those until after the deadline's passed, so... |

As an interesting thought: Steve could probably buy back the rights to Creatures with money like that, if he wanted, and was able. Last I checked the Creatures series isn't worth more than 20,000, and that was many years ago back when Gameware "bought" them.
And I'm just going to throw this out there...but anyone else concerned with where the project might head? I remember reading an article by Steve about how he hated "cute and balanced", and loved "awkward underdogs". His first concept for norns was a chicken-like thing, and the final product he called "ew". lol |

Well you have a pretty safe bet that if situations permit, I'll be leading or aiding any such mod to bring Creatues to whatever masterpiece of Alife Mr. Grand makes.

Honestly, I'm not worried, especially with the game projected to being open to major 3rd party additions; but then I liked the chicken-thing, so... yeah.
