In the newc CAOS command, there's this field variant.
Now what I think this does, is: sprite files can have more than one species in them. e.g. you could have a sprite with a chichi arm in it, and follow those 16 sprites with the 16 bruin arm sprites, for two variants, and then which variant would be used would be decided by the variant field in the newc command. (always random in the default scripts).
Can someone confirm or refute this for me? |

I can neither confirm or refute for sure, but I think it's to do with genes rather than sprites. Genes have a variant number between 0-8. Genes with 0 are applied to all creatures, while genes with 1-8 are applied depending on what variant that creature has. Normally, when a creature hatches, it's assigned a random variant that determines which genes it will use, but it looks like that can be set manually with the newc command. |
