Sprite/att issue with a 3rd party breed

I wondered if there might be anyone still doing 3rd party development on C3/DS who might kindly be able to help me. I used to have a number of breeds I made available. After a long hiatus I reinstalled the game and started going through the items I had created, and unfortunately after a few hosting changes some of the files were corrupted or had parts missing, most of which I have been able to fix. However there is one breed I made called Tiger Grendels which has a problem with either the sprites or the atts of the adult stage and they are crashing the game. I would really like to get them working as I consider the adult stage of them one of my better attempts. Does anyone else please have time to look at them and see if they can identify the issue? The name I always used was 'snapdragon' but I can't seem to get it to work or create a new account with that name, so I think I must have registered it on an email address that's now dead. :-(

This thread suggests that maybe some of the sprites might have some non-black pixels in them, and that might be causing the errors.

Thanks for the reply. I've narrowed down the part that isn't working to the body sprite. However, when I replace the body sprite and the att with a renamed copy of the grendel body sprite, and the matching att, that comes with the C3 game, the problem comes back. :-/ Additionally, the crash only occurs when the grendels age from the Youth stage to adult and the sprites refresh -- if I load up a game with adult grendels in, the sprites for the adult stage are all present and correct and working normally. Any ideas anyone?

Further update: the sprites work properly when I use them to replace the sprites of another breed and age a grendel of that breed to adult -- so the issue doesn't seem to be the sprites or atts at all. :-/

Hello Snapdragon!
I allways adored your'e breeds!
Tiger Grendels being one of my fav and Actually noticed that the adult ones surely was the issue - I think noted down somewhere what exact was the reason, but remember it was the adult sprites thought.
I would gladly have helped you with it,sadly Im unable to create anything myself now too as Im stuck with my mothers win8 laptop.

I have DS installed but thats just it.
Im unable to do any project or breed sprite editing - as I do not feel comfy with the paint tools on her comp and is not how I work.

I hope you be able to solve it and it's nice to see you here on the forums.

Thanks, glad you like them and people are still enjoying them. :-) I've now tried a few different things to try to work out what's going on. In game, I can combine all of the tiger grendel parts with another grendel breed head and have it work, and I can also combine the tiger grendel head with anything other than an adult grendel body and that works. It seems to be only the combination of the tiger grendel head with any grendel body that is causing it to crash. :-S I'm having palette problems if I try to extract and reimport the sprite images, probably because the Windows 10 rig I built a few months ago I guess isn't a paragon of compatibility with the game. I have enough memory on this thing that I can run thousands of creatures, but my own memory isn't working that well because I did most of this 15 years ago on Linux. lol

Your'e very welcome!
Hoped to see some more breeds from you,but since I been creating some breeds myself,I know thats very time consuming and perhaps that may not be the case?
It's good to hear you want to try fixing the Tiger Grendels (alltought I adore the past looks of them compared to the adult, I truly miss the cute bow the females used to have as well - no offence meant!)

Ah yes, thats was the case - the adult heads causing errors.
I noticed that when I had some adult tigers making my game trow errors and crash. I tested with genetic various parts of tiger gren mixes and did find out the head was the cause.
I just wish I wasn't stuck with this laptop, otherwise I would surely be able to fix the issue, I had such things with some of my breeds as well and should not be too hard to solve. I thought that once Im able to go back to my beloved win XP, I would perhaps be able to make a patch fix (with your'e permission of course). But since that won't be happening for a while, Im unable to do anything breed sprite related, for now.

EDIT: Nvm - I just found something that might let me do sprite making again! (Will test this later)

I really want to go back finish of some of my other breeds I have still
in progress. Win8 is working different to win XP or a win7...

In any case,Im sure you be able to fix them!
Will look forward to it!

For now,Im having Ghosthand's lovely thorndevil Grendels,as they use same Grendel slot. Was quite hard for me since I like them both and wish I could have them co-exist side by side.

I was busy with work for a long time after I stopped making stuff, and then I was playing more modern games. I run my own business now and the nature of what I do means it tends to wind down during the winter, so the joy of games one can fiddle about with has become interesting once again. I built a new computer so I'm thinking now of installing Linux on the old box and using that to have a look at stuff in the hope it might be more compatible. When people collaborated with me on stuff previously, my policy to say thank you was to let them host the items on their own site as a co-creator. One guy very kindly compiled the Plague Ettins into an all-in-one agent (he had to write all the files in manually to build it) and a lady kindly scripted the Bubonic Bugle because I was having problems getting the clouds of stench to come out in the right place. :-)

I live in hope there might be a new Creatures game one day, but from the sounds of things if there is it won't be 3rd party friendly. :-(

Oh I see, thats fully understandable. Real life jumps in a lot, some times unexpected, but such is life. It's good to hear you seem to be able to try again. Then I guess there might be chance to see stuff from you - seeing new made contents are allways neat and
I did like most things from you're page! :3

Ah I see, well thats nice and also good to know!
Thats pretty much like some of my co made things as well:
https://sites.google.com/site/norngirlstemporarystorageplace/
-I will someday fix up that site of mine...-
I agree, since it was a co-creation,I think indeed credit and host at both site is right for both of the co-creators that was part of it.

Thats so true - it been quite up and down with seeing a new proper Creatures title. Spilgames who took over now pomised some sneakpeeks in summer, but nothing yet...and theyre also a mobile game company...

I agree, there won't be much hope for custome contents if it goes mobile style - im not much found in them doing it as another FB game (like fishing cactus started, along with some the sims pie meny pop ups). I still don't understand that they can hand over Creatures to mobile phone game companies. I would be ok with spin-offs,but not as a main title.

I allways imagened next gen Creatures to have everything Creatures had up to now when it comes to gameplay, but perhaps genetics
and other things would be more improved.
I also think the world would be a splice between the first and second game:a lush and beutifull world in general.

But instead of platformer ,it would be more open and free to explore, as well the Norns themself would be able to move around and be animated more naturaly - like the apperance of sims 3 in terms of being 3D,pretty ecosystem that feel alive with weather & night/day system etc - But NO pop ups.You would still be raising them with the hand.
And that breeding creatures would range to more natural mixes than just swapped bodyparts (something fishing cactus got right, sort of) - It's only graphical wise anyway I meant.
Well thats my dream idea of it.

I heard some fans trying to make theyre own ceatures game
( I think I readed Geat_masta trying something creatures like and I think another wanted to do something in 3D,I just forgot the name, sorry).

I know that fangame may not hold up much hope as such interessting
projects usualy don't get finished as big companies with paid people do - but it's of course not impossible thought, but the chance of it being made is kinda slim.

I still wonder if that Spilgame is going/is still doing something with Creatures at all?
or perhaps, like Fishing Cactus,it seem like a good idea at first but dived into it too soon to then realize that it is a lot more deeper than any other pet oriented sim game to work with and is not si simple as some people may think at first glance.
Im sill sad that people im shoing creatures to often mistake it for an
simple game.

-edit if I made some typing errors/mistakes,do not mind hem much,Im kinda tired, and may fix them afterwards.-
Also sorry for long rant post.

Well, I've just uploaded...
'Less Uninteresting Norns'
Uninteresting Norns were a project that was nearly finished last time I left off. They weren't a full 'breed' as such because there were only sprites for one sex, and it was intended to be a blank canvas, without any hair and in a neutral colour, so people could use them as a base for designing their own, or to play around with colour experiments. So I wrote them a genome and an egg agent that makes them born camouflaged and dark and the sexes turn different colours as they mature.

I guess any future games would have to be fully 3D, which does tend to make it harder for 3rd party developers as I don't know of any widely available, easy software for making 3D meshes, although there is always the possibility of photoshopping new skins.

I guess that maybe a start then?
but it sound interessting - I will have a look at it,thanks :3
I presume it's on your'e site?
EDIT: Nvm,Found them.

if it maybe worked like Sims2 Bodyshop perhaps could be something?
Still,as of meshes....maybe it could work in a similar way but more like a fusion of 3D programs thats drag and drop like 3D crafter and other such programs perhaps..like there would be a easy to use tools for mesh making but be able to export it to said required file format..I don't know.
Textures are allways the easy part, but 3D meshes is surely bit more, complicated.

This is still an issue. Is there anyone who can fix this?

I'd love to have this as a playable breed.
Preferably not clashing with the dustdevils either...
