I was browsing around in my C2 images folder one day, and noticed a huge amount of sprite files that contained all the images for individual norns. I suspect that is how in game tinting works.
Now I'm experimenting with creating individually modified norns, no norn slots! It probably won't work, but it's worth a try.
Imagine the possibilities? Mascots, personal 'you' norns and more.
What do you think? |

Wow.
I should try it!
*goes to DS images norn folder*
Edit: Eh, hehe. How exactly do you edit them?

C2! Argh!
Honestly...
It worked! Yay! I have this uni norn running round with flowers in her hair. |

Eh! I want to see a screenshot before I get all 'Woahemgee!'.

No, it's true. I think the sprites for individual norns are saved under the same name as their genome moniker in the Images folder.
I had no idea you could actually edit those files, though. Well, I mean, you can edit all of those files, but I figured C2 would replace them or something every time it reloaded... Draconorn, can she pass those flowers on to her babies, or does the game just give them the default Uni head?
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

I don't know, I need to do more testing.
The game doesn't replace them if you load up more than once, but you can only modify the sprites if you copy the file into another folder, edit it then save it as the priginal in the images folder.
I think it would be a bad idea for these norns to breed because when the norn ages you would have to sprite them all over again. I need someone to make me a special immortal genome that doesn't age unless forced to and doesn't die of age. Who wants to? |

(Eh?)
I did some testing, and found that norns do not inherit special sprites (at least, I think they don't. The test subject was female but she had a son)
I also found that their sprites vanish if another norn of the same kind ages. The problem is easily fixed if you copy the sprites into the folder again.
I still need an immortal genome, I tried and failed to make one.
EDIT: Here's picture proof! In the second frame there's another uni norn of the same age, who is flowerless.

If I had a genome I'd be making some mascots right now, and putting them up for download on Astropetz. |

I could make one for you.

Thanks
It needs to be immortal, so it doesn't age or die of old age.
Also, it would probably be a good idea to make it infertile, since I'm pretty sure these norns don't pass the sprites onto their kids.
I had a go at making a genome, but I'm no good with the biochemistry stuff. |

Okay, I've compleated version one, which never ages from baby stage. Version two will never age past adult stage.

Okay. I'd need the adult one, because I'll use Bobtweak to age the norn to adult, then modify its sprites.
Thanks again. |

I still need a genome. And I'm finding the code to force age norns.
And isn't there a screenshot further up the page?! |

You can force age them with Blueberry4$

I've noticed the extra sprites too before, but I had taken it for granted. I had also only had colored scorpion Norns nad had thought Wafuru did all those, since those were the only ones who had extra sprites.
Thanx for pointing this out Draconorn.
C3/DS certainly handles colors a different way.
Stripes just aren't my color. |
