So I just found an old forum post from 2015 about what offspring of creatures are called. It includes suggestions of pups or kits for norns, ettlets or ettlings for ettins, neonates (baby snakes?) or hatchlings for grendels, and a whole slew of names for young Shee. Unfortunately, we never really decided on any of the above, as the post got off track and started debating how cheese is made in the Creatures universe.
I wanted to know if we have a (mostly) fan consensus on what we are calling the babies! Whatcha think? |

Personally I like to call them Nornlings, Ettinlings, and Grendlings. It's a cohesive theme and sounds cute!
From a real-world biological perspective, though, I think baby Norns and Ettins would be called "infants" since that's what baby primates are called and these two species seem to most resemble primates. Baby Grendels would be called "hatchlings", since this is the term used for most baby reptiles.
But, I like the fantastical version more! After all, they're not animals from our world and probably don't fit neatly within our taxonomic tree, so who says we can't make up our own names for them? Yeah, I'm going with Nornlings, Ettinlings, and Grendlings

I tend to call baby norns Nornlings, ettins Ettlings (for some reason my brain doesn't like the extra syllable of Ettinlings), and Grendels Hatchlings since they're more reptilian.
Between my love of cookies, tea, and the observation of genetics in nature I'm practically a Shee. |

I like Nornlings and Ettlets. Not sure about baby Grendels - for some reason the word "Grarg" comes to mind. |
