EA's Spore Game 1 | 2 | 3 | |

I'm sure most members of the Creatures Community are already waiting in anticipation of this most wonderful game. For those who have yet to hear of Spore, I think it may be right up your street.
The premise of the game is a simple one. Guide and control the evolution of a creature from the microscopic level all the way up to interstellar spacefaring civilisation.
The game is a genre-spanning entity, all the way from Arcade through Thrid Person and Real Time Strategy to Space Sim. Potentially, this could make it a lot of fun.
I've collected up a few screenshots, and wrote a little commentary on the progression of the game. =)
Tide Pool Phase
In the tide pool phase, you directly control your creature, playing a 2d "eat 'em up" to get from microscopic to smal amphibian.
Creature Phase
We have three dimensions!
After sliming your way out of the ocean comes the Creature Phase. Here you progressively build and refine your creature, battling him out in the world against other creatures for survival. In an interesting similarity to Docking Station, the other fauna populating the world are the creations of other Spore players, downloaded over the internet. Unlike DS though, they are but copies.
Huge Possibilities
As can be seen, there exist vast possibilties for how you want your creature to appear. Some of them are ridiculously stupid, yet supremely fun =P
Tribal Phase
Find yourself a mate, and start a tribe. In this phase of the game your control of a single creature ends, and instead you must preside over a small village population, guiding and improving their developement.
City Phase
As your culture develops and technology refines, your village blossoms into a city.
Civilisation Phase
This is when things go all "Red Alert" on you. Exploring out from the city other civilisations can be found. All these other species will have different appearance, as well as the different architectures, abilities and personality dispositions that go with it. Whether through peaceful integration or military conquest, the aim of this stage, as with any good RTS is world domination.
Space Phase
The world is your oyster. So what now? As technology develops, space travel becomes possible. First planetary and eventually interstellar are within your reach, allowing colonisation of the galaxy. With a vast wealth of biological science at your control you can create your own species, give them a world to live on and play God over them.
Personally, I'm buying this game as soon as it comes out. No actually, I think I'll pre-order. It bears some happy similarities to the Creatures series I know and love, and with the genre amalgam it looks extremely promising. Watching the gameplay video is recommended, since it says far more about the game than I ever could.

Woo! Spore! Yay!
I'm so going to get it as well. It sounds like an amazing game! I hope they'll let you evolve a purely aquatic race...
But technological advancement is less likely to happen underwater, so you'd probably have to go on land first and then head back once you've discovered how to make cities under domes.
(Underwater technology is unlikely because, well, what would you invent? There's no use for fire, weapons, tools, houses or wheels...)

Omywing, I sure hope they let you develop dragon, or dragon like, creatures.
I think I heard of this game once...
I have a feeling my half sister will buy it (she is not a creatures fan, but is a Sims fan)
I CANNOT wait. Let it come out NOW!

That was the original date, though some sources suggest that it may not be coming out until mid 2007. If that is the case then so be it, but I really do want to play this game. ;_;

It also looks similar to a game on this site:
Vertigogaming.net
called "The Sandbox Of God"
except this one has way better graphics. |

Brilliant thing to say in a Creatures fanforum.
I'm looking forward to this game. Really forward. I'm-not-replacing-my-laptop-until-I-know-what-stats-I-need forward.
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

This game looks amazing.
Just watched the video. I actually noticed my mouth was wide open at some parts. It has the kind of artwork/graphics that make you want to stare at them for ages...
I wish I could get this game when it comes out, but I think this laptop would die under the strain. Which is sad, because it's totally my type of game. |

Finishing the first level of Super Mario Brothers is optional, too.
I really wonder how tribal stage will look underwater.

I love how the Ocean Lord is so preoccupied with the underwater aspects of the game.
I've never heard of it until reading this thread but I must say that it looks amazing!

Yeah, I've heard about it before and it does sound really interesting. All the more so for the fact I'm an RTS fan and thus the later stages appeal to me just as much as the single entity phases.
The one drawback? Its a new game, which means high end specs which means I'm flat out of luck until we get a better computer.

You know, I wouldn't get too hyped about this game if I were you... I fell into that trap. I joined the SPORE community and all that jazz, read every bit of info, because completely enamoured by it, but once you have done that, you become a little disenchanted by it. It almost seems as if you have played the game, and regardless of how good you know it's going to be, you start to question its quality. |

It will be that, and so much more... If you really want to, you can make your purple cheese into a creature.
And, that gave me an idea for a new agent in the game. 'Purple Cheese' It's for the toxic norns, and has a similar effect to eating detritus. *me gets to work* |

Oh believe me, I'm not doing. It certainly looks like a great game but I'm not going to join the fan sites and obsess about it. If it were not for this thread I'd probably forget about it entirely until near the release date or when someone reminded me.
We shall see, eventually.
