As nobody has discussed CCSF 2009 yet, it was brought to my attention over at Creaturetopia that I should get the ball rolling :)

What kind of timeline are we looking at?

Over two months of preparation went into the '06 CCSF. I do not exactly recall how long we spent planning, nor am I acquainted with how Don and Liam went about setting up the technical side of things, or how long that was in the works for.

I guess it's a good thing this gets brought up now, then, while there's time.

I was so work-swamped during CCSF08 not only did I not finish my ettin breed, I missed the thing entirely and showed up a month later to see already it came and went. Hopefully this year I'll make it in time.

Anyone have any ideas for a theme?

Timewise you'll always want more to get everything done, so its best just to pick a date and stick with it.

I'm guessing August time in the Summer is still usually when people have a little time free.

What do you do at the Creatures Community Service Festival?

I think it would be interesting and lots of fun to have a themed CCSF, like some of the themes Ghosthande suggested. ^_^ I've never actually contributed anything to them myself, but I was thinking I could write some fanfiction (a creatures story <3) and draw some fanart for 2009. It would also be really great if we could have a Feral or Wolfling run and document it with little pictures. I love those! Lol.

I'm back after 11 years. Holy dooley!

Well I've always wanted to learn how to make agents, Norn breeds and metarooms. ^_^ I'm just not sure how to go about learning it. I could probably help out with organising a sort of competition though. Can you have Feral runs as a competition?

Well, for learning how to make Agents you could try the CAOS Chaos here on Creatures Caves.

I think Ghosthande made also a tutorial at the last CCSF.

Personally, I think CCFS should be themed around knowledge, information, ect...... Sort of like a library, lots of articles, so forth. Or maybe all the Creatures fans could start writing a book. Just thought I'd throw that out there, because I love info.

Thank you for the links and suggestions Malkin and Papriko. :D

I'm looking at all of them (and adding them to my favourites list) now. Hopefully I can learn a lot more. I don't know if I'll learn it in time to create something for CCSF 2009 but it looks really useful. ^_^ *study study!*

For the sake of keeping those of you who don't browse Creaturetopia in the loop, I thought I'd bump this thread to let you know some of the theme ideas that we've been discussing over on Creaturetopia.

Two of the most popular themes being discussed at the moment are "The Future" and "Time".

Here's a couple of exerpts from the CCSF 2009 thread just to clue you in on some of the ideas behind the themes:

3kul wrote:
Back to the topic of CCSF '09 themes, I think that "Preservation" is a pretty good one, though personally I'd like to throw in "The Future" as a potential theme. I think it holds a fairly similar meaning to us as members of the CC (as we are looking to preserve past creations for future enjoyment) but it can also be interpretted in a much broader sense, and might be a bit of an easier subject for people to base their contributions on.

Amaikokonut wrote:
I'm still stuck on "the future" but (gah here we go again) all this talk about different ages of Creatures made me consider something else: just "Time" (or "Chronos/Khronos";). It's a little bizarre and challenging.. but it might focus on timelines, the passing of time in the CC, an in-depth tutorial about timer scripts, agents that make use of the ingame version of days/seasons, and all our preservation notions could fall under the concept of a "time capsule." Maybe it's a little too strange but it's worth throwing out there; I'm happy either way.

(Note that there is quite a bit more discussion over on Creaturetopia, but I didn't want to quote everything here :P)

They are both quite interesting as potential themes, though I think that "Time" is gaining more popularity now than "The Future".

So... Yeah! Just wanted to let you Ccaves folk know all about that in case you didn't know, and I figured that some of you might want to talk a bit more about your own ideas for a potential CCSF '09 theme or wanted to weigh in your opinions on these ones :)

I would suggest Sci Fi / Fantasy but seeing as C3/DS already takes place in space I'm not sure how it could be made more Sci-Fi... ish.

Creatures Fairytales also comes to mind but I doubt if that's exciting enough to theme the CCSF after it.

Contests would be nice. Especially if there were prizes. Is it possible to have prizes?

Just going to quickly point out that (as the CCSF Poll #1 thread was locked) if anybody has anything that they don't like about how the CCSF is being organized, they are more than welcome to do something about it themselves. Nothing that we decide with polls is ever going to be final this early in the game, so there's nothing stopping you from repolling previously made decisions as many times as you like.

I voted in the first poll and set up the one on Ctopia because I thought that it seemed like a good idea to try and get people thinking about these things early. I'm not organizing the 2009 CCSF, nor do I have any intentions to, and as such I will not do things for you when you can just as easily do them for yourself.

My apologies for interrupting the discussion, let's get back to it.

Contests would be great, but yeah, I don't know what we could do about prizes. I mean, any agents or breeds or whatever that are available are already out there for anybody to download, so nothing like that would make for a special prize...

I know it seems a little boring, but I guess the easiest thing would be to have the recognition of being the winner as the prize.

Maybe there could be badges? Like "participated in such-and-such", "won first place in such-and-such", etc.? Seems better than just telling them "congrats you won", they'd have something to show for it that they could put on their web page, sig, etc.

Oh, you mean kind of like what we have on Blackstar? That's a really good idea, and as you say, it's a bit more fun to have something like that rather than just a little 'congratulations' :)

I do like the idea of little graphic badges. The problem with prizes is often finding something that people actually care to compete for, but I think that's a nice way to acknowledge someone's achievements without creating an overly-competitive atmosphere that a coveted prize can create.

I actually may be able to lend a hand in creating said badges if it's needed; having been to school for graphic design and all :)

It'd be awesome if you could give it a shot Amaikokonut, assuming that you've got the free time for it, that is.

I'm a little hesitant to try and suggest what you should and shouldn't do since I don't want to cramp your style, but if you're looking for ideas here's a couple of badges/trophies from Blackstar:

Blobs of Doom Award
(Given to those who joined the resistance against the invading Blobs in "The Last-Forever Machine" thread with ten posts or more.)

Dojo Wiki Supporter
(To honor those who have made great contributions to Blackstar's own Wiki.)

Humor Arpie
(An award given annually to the creator of the Funniest Thread/Comment/Post/Action.) [Note: The Arpies were a one-off awards ceremony we held back when Blackstar was booming. Interstingly, they are one of the few awards done as a trophy rather than a badge.]

Heart of Gold Award
(Given to those who have chosen to do the right thing over doing something to their own benefit, the Heart of Gold is Psychotopia's highest award for outstanding moral character.)

There's heaps more, you can check them out here if you like.

Also, to do a bit of cross-posting so that everybody's on the same page:

3kul wrote:
... some updates for the main discussion thread, to save people the trouble of browsing around looking for information:
1. Creaturetopia's Poll #1.5 has finished, and the majority of our voters support a CCSF that runs from November 1st to November 14th. No big surprises here :P
2. Additional Poll #1.5's have been posted on Albia 2000 and Creatures Caves. Originally I had no plans to do this (considering how little interest there seemed to be on those forums), but in the interest of fairness it only seems right.
3. The Creatures wiki page on CCSF '09 has been updated accordingly, and also mentions the three most popular suggested themes at the moment - "Time", "Preservation" and "The Future". I haven't got any proof that they're the most popular, they just seem to be what most folks have been talking about.

That's all from me for now! :)

Yeah according to a few polls most people were happy to have it run for the first two weeks in November, what with C3's tenth anniversary falling on November 1st and all.

I plan on polishing up some useful cos files I've made for personal use and compiling them into agents... and maybe writing a few articles. Depends on what I have the time for, really.

I'd like to try doing a video montage again too but that got absolutely zero interest last year so maybe I'll see if I can come up with something more interesting.

Not sure that's possible given the way the game engine itself works. Unless we're talking about a new breed that uses adult sprites/atts for the baby life stage and so on.

I sure would like to see more fanfics. It seems like there are so few around these days.

Crosspost BUMP!

Nobody's posted in this thread for a while, huh? Well it's just over two months until CCSF 2009 so you should be!

Important updates:

1. Could the person responsible for mentioning CCSF 2009 on the CCSF website please correct the dates? There is no way we could possibly run a CCSF from the 1st of November until the 14th of October, that is just way too long XD

2. Time to decide on a theme! I've put polls up here on Creatures Caves as well as over on Ctopia and A2K. The favourites were Time, Preservation and The Future, so these are the three that we're choosing from.

3. I can't imagine that many people have started on their contributions for CCSF '09 yet, but I think that at the very least you should all start thinking about which day you'll be releasing your contribution/s or hosting your events on. I've heard that one of the most difficult things for the people who run the CCSF is the scheduling, so if we all start thinking about it early perhaps this will make things easier. Keep in mind that we can't have too much happening on any one particular day, and that each day needs at least one release. To give you an idea of what CCSF 09 will look like, here's a current calendar for it:

* November 1st (Sunday) - CCSF begins, C3's 10th Anniversary (nothing scheduled yet, but it goes without saying that this is likely to be a highly desired release/event day)
* November 2nd (Monday) - (nothing scheduled yet)
* November 3rd (Tuesday) - (nothing scheduled yet)
* November 4th (Wednesday) - (nothing scheduled yet)
* November 5th (Thursday) - (nothing scheduled yet)
* November 6th (Friday) - (nothing scheduled yet)
* November 7th (Saturday) - (nothing scheduled yet, but the weekend will undoubtedly be a popular time for releases/events)
* November 8th (Sunday) - (nothing scheduled yet, but the weekend will undoubtedly be a popular time for releases/events)
* November 9th (Monday) - (nothing scheduled yet)
* November 10th (Tuesday) - (nothing scheduled yet)
* November 11th (Wednesday) - (nothing scheduled yet)
* November 12th (Thursday) - (nothing scheduled yet)
* November 13th (Friday) - (nothing scheduled yet, but I'd be willing to bet that this'll be the third most popular release/event day, considering that it's Friday the 13th [devil] )
* November 14th (Saturday): CCSF comes to a close (nothing scheduled yet, though keep in mind that as the final day of this year's festival this will probably be the second most highly sought after release/event day)

Just like to make myself clear here: you don't have to reveal your plans for whatever it is you hope to do for the CCSF if you don't want to. A simple response like "I think I'd have mine ready by the second week", "I'd like to release my greenhouse metaroom on Nov 6th as that's my birthday", "I'm going on holidays on the 11th so I'd like to host my C2 event early on in week one" or whatever is fine. It's purely for the sake of getting a vague idea as to how things might work out, so you're free to tell us as much or as little as you like about what you have in store for us.

4. The Cwiki article on the CCSF has been editted to mention the theme polls.

3kul

3kul

  9/9/2009

*bump*

The polls have come to a close and the votes have made the results quite clear: the theme for this year's CCSF will be Time. I've editted the wiki article on CCSF '09 to mention this.

Could the person responsible for mentioning CCSF 2009 on the CCSF website please correct the dates?

The dates still haven't changed, so once again, could the person responsible for mentioning the CCSF 2009 on the CCSF website please correct the dates?

The CCSF is just under two months away, and now that we have a theme you might like to start thinking about which day you'll be releasing your contribution/s or hosting your events on. As I said in my previous post, keep in mind that we can't have too much happening on any one particular day, and that each day needs at least one release.

Our calendar so far remains unchanged, and looks exactly the same as it did in my previous post. Nobody has set aside any dates just yet, but I'll be editing the calendar constantly so it shouldn't be too hard to see what's available and what isn't.

Once again, you don't need to reveal any details about your contribution/event to set aside a time-frame for it. All you need to do is say when you think you'll have something ready by (or in the case of an event, how long you think that it'll last), and if you have any particular preference as to when your contribution is released/event is hosted then feel free to say so. If you don't specify a preferred date that's fine too, just be aware that your contribution/event will most likely be slated for whatever days wind up being the least popular so that we get an even spread.
