Because i've been the awesome person to win the GOG albian years game, i've been playing it for the past couple days. But I've run into some problems - most likely misunderstandings - with the game.
The biggest of which is that C2 doesn't save upon exiting. It saves periodically on it's own, but when exiting it reverts to the last automatic save. My progress between then and when I closed is thus lost. I've never had this problem with the original releases of C2, and I was wondering, is there a way around it without installing some kind of cheat? Some way to force it to save? I'd like to avoid that if at all possible; cheats make me go into mad-scientist mode and the change is irreversible! That's what C3/DS is for!
As for C1, i quite simply have no idea how to get the cobs to work. My health kit also refuses to load, with the message 'there is no error to display'. That's not a big problem in itself, but if there is a way around it love to see it. I'd like to have a few extra cobs around since the world seems to have a limited supply of food, and to pacify the grendels. There is no 'objects' or 'my agents' folder like there is in C2 OR C3/DS, and yes i've checked the documents folder for this elusive folder as well. Am I supposed to create it? How does that work? This is my first time playing C1 and i'm a little in the dust, haha, so I expect these to be semi-normal things.
I'm not running into the saving problem in C1, however, and if it weren't for the aggressive grendels i'd be playing it right now! |

Run C1 as an administrator, and the Health Kit should work. What system are you operating on?

Windows 7. I'll try that next time I play! |

Also, there's no folder for COBs. You just put them in the main folder and presto! You're good to go. Then all you have to do is click on the little applet with the green, blue, and red dots next to the Observation Kit, and it'll open up the object injector. You have to have a creature selected to be able to open it, though.

Thanks, Darby!
Anyone know how to fix the weird no-save thing in C2? |

Anytime!
I'm afraid I don't know what to do about C2. Mine doesn't have any issues, and I'm running the same operating system...

I've done some testing and it was fixed after I installed the remastered patch. Whatever it was, it's over now. |

Another tip, just while I remember it: Unlike C3/DS, the COBs in Creatures 1 have to be removed by injecting separate RCB files. So, if you ever want to remove a COB from your world, open the Object Injector, click 'Select', type *rcb into the 'File name' field, hit Enter, then scroll down and the RCB files should be listed.
Some third-party COBs don't come with RCB files however, but as far as I can tell *most* of them do. |

Thanks, Laura! I'll keep that in mind.
Some of the default X-Mas cobs only have 5 injections. Oh dear.. |

If it helps any, I wrote a short informational blurb about CrEd32 for the CCSF 2012. There is an option in the program to replenish the stocks of COBs, which really helps with the ones that have small numbers! CrEd32 is a really old program, although I've found it works on my Windows 7 system. If it doesn't work for you, I might attempt to see if uploading a replenished COB preserves the number... I have a feeling it does, but I've never tried it before!

That data is stored in the COB file, so it should be preserved when you upload it. |

Thanks guys! I'll look into that if it ever becomes an issue or I run out of X-mas puddings. |

Somehow, my C2 worlds are no longer saving automatically after I had one crash.
I still have no idea what's going on. Is there some sort of code I can use to force it to save? Does anyone know? |

In c1 you can fix the aggressive grendels. It's a command script, not genetics. |

Update: I've given in and am now using blueberry cheat to save my games. Now i've run into some weird problems concerning many of the custom breed installers.
When I try to run them, it attempts to look in program files and not the gog.com folder grouping to dump new files into. When I move the main creatures 2 folder into program files it finds it, but when I run the installer no files are actually.. extracted/placed and the breed doesn't work. What gives? I want my butterfly norns, and for my frog norns to look right!
They also are ignoring the 'my documents' folders too. No stray .egg files there.
I've also tried throwing them into the the normal 'program files' instead of 'program files x86' (which is what it's looking for) and it still crashes because it can no longer find the file.
The mernorn installer doesn't do this for some reason, and the mernorns are working fine, but wafuru's other installers are doing this too. It seems to be a mostly universal thing.
edit: I have a feeling no one has really played this version extensively and that's why i'm the first to find all these weird things, haha.
edit2: I've also installed the remastered patch, which is meant to fix this, but it hasn't worked. It says I might need to 'replace certain exe files to complete the installation', but with what? No other information is given concerning that. |
